Cropping is done.

At 400mm, the plane is still rather small on screen.

It's a difficult shot to get (from the ground) and you did a brilliant job! It makes me want to watch "Stealth." A little noisy but that should be expected... I especially like the last shot, though I find it to be a little bit blurry... Maybe play around with it some. Well done!

Thank thanks

Very siong leh. It is easier to wack *(snap)* the elusive sunbirds at SBG than this huge war birds. They fly damm fast and all over the place.

I was using the EF100-400mm L IS. My image stablizer must have been fried by the end of the day, it was working non stop during the show....and I got my fair share of motion sickness looking thru the viewfinder also... but it works most of the time....

At 400mm x 1.6X crop factor of the 300D = 640mm. I still need to crop like made. Imagine those with the usual 70 - 200mm will be very siong.

Yesterday I saw someone with a HUGE Nikon 500 / 600mm lens on a triport. Now I know why journalist would prefer Canon instead of Nikon. Reason : The lens is black and from far, looks like a rocket launcher - this will invite a "kill 1st talk later" bullet from the opposite forces....

Did it for a few shots, the image in my view finder were swimming all over ! Got montion sickness looking at them

Maybe next try, but at that time I dare not risk it.... my hands are not as strong as when I was 18yrs old.

The setup is almost 3 kg and pointing upwards all the time for the shoots....

The problem is IS may behave unexpectedly because the shutter speed is so fast that it wont have time to react....

FYI, pple who shoot sports with their 400/500/600 prime will turn their IS off

In case you didn't know... normally birdshooters wear dark coloured clothes when shooting, white is not encouraged.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Was your autofocus able to catch the plane or did you have to resort to manual most of the time?

It was impossible for me to use autofocus but den again I was using a Tamron 90mm macro so I wasn't expecting much. Just want to see if I were to use a Nikon/Canon high end lens this would then be possible.

Let me know the next time you are at SBG shooting with dark clothings.

I like to stand near to or next to you.

It is a very good mosquito bait, helps me to concentrate on the birdy better.

Well, thats them with strong arms.
Me no leh, otherwise I wouldn;'t have to fork out the extra $$$ & kg for these IS lenses

Plus the Canon buggers out to be shot for not listening to their customer, if wat you said is true, coz they had added extra weight and cost to a set of fine optics.

Let me own the prime IS lenses 1st and I will share with you my experience

I hear my numbers being called for tonight's TOTO....
