Pardon me, but is that effect call the 'Jet Stream'?
I always thought jet stream is this: (from dictionary.com) "A high-speed, meandering wind current, generally moving from a westerly direction at speeds often exceeding 400 kilometers (250 miles) per hour at altitudes of 15 to 25 kilometers (10 to 15 miles)." |

I stand corrected on the defination. But to the layman, jet stream sound more friendly (thou incorrect). Lets just say it is a "caption".

Comment on what? The "steam"? On the inboard side of the engines, there's a small strake fin that performs two functions... it helps to guide the turbulent airflow bouncing of the lip of the engine (the shiny metallic part), and make it straight to flow nicely over the wing. And it also help ease the stress on the engine fuse pins which holds up the engine. (Most commercial aircraft engines are held up only by 8 bolts 1.5cm diameter each. Surprisingly powerful) In this case, the sharp turning creates a disturbance to the airflow, and the condensation is similar to what you see on the wing tips of a fighter pulling Gs. Then why does some commercial airplanes engine emerge white smoke trails behind sometimes? Altitude? Humidity? |

I had always joked about certain airlines in the north, which fly 1/2 way, engine can drop.
So there were some truth in my uneducated joke afterall.... Well, in a red branded airlines from an immediately north country, I had the life vest dropped on my feet. On examination, it was held in place by 2 (red airline brand) tape !!! On another flight, the ceiling was rattering, and on close look, there was the red-tape stuck onto the ceilling, as if holding on to something !!!
