Default Brand of filter to get?

Hi guys, I am getting the 50mm F1.8 due to bro espn's MTL, BBB virus.

I know of UV filters that go at $10 (Hoya), and read up some threads about Nikon filters VS these "cheap" filters. For this particular lens, what filter do you recommend me to get? This will be my 4th lens, and all my previous lenses I have been getting cheap UV filters for them.

Does the 50mm deserve a better UV filter than the Hoya ones? (if this is the way to put it. )

Just purchased a B+W 62mm filter for $68...

Guess for the 52mm, it'd cost around $55-60? Just a guess.

Hi there,

indeed, its recommended to use the nikon filters. But judging from the price of the 50mm f1.8, you are better off not using the filter? otherwise, the filter cost 1/3 the price of the lens. if its for other lens like the f1.4, trinity lens and so on, I think its Important.

Also, the 50mm is rather recessed in. Difficult to be scratched. Unless you are doing macro, I dont see a need to use it. I got a cheap filter to protect the lens element. If it affects the result, just take out the cheap filter and shoot. =)

Also, I feel that the $60 in this case is better off spent getting a hood for the 50mm. I have gotten flare shooting outdoors wide open though I was not facing the sun directly. Am looking for the hood though. Coz for this case, the nikon one is the way to go. -)

Just my 2cents.

Regards,
tltan

Anyway, you pay for what you get, don't expect a $10 hoya filter to be better than a $105 Nikon

unless you like to manual focus all the time with the CZ lens, then AFD 50mm would be fine.
