Default IR Attempt #1

Just got my Hoya R72 ..
Here is my 1st Attempt.
Not too sure what to do, just follow the instructions on the sticky thread.

Wind was strong and the trees were swaying.
Would appreciate comments and critiques so that I can improve on it.

Why do I see some other IR photo the sky are blue?

Hi,

You have a nice shot there for a first attempt. Photoexpress and I were wondering how come you trees are bluish and you're not getting a blue sky.

It could be your CWB, sometimes need to try with different CWBs for the tone you want.

Can you post your out of cam unprocessed pics for the guys here to have a look and try?

Hi Teerex,

this is the IR photo straight out from the camera

I did not do the channel mixer thingy cause that makes the tree looks pinkish
I might try another CWB again tomorrow

thanks for sparing the time to look and comments.

without IR filter

Hi taipankid,

Very good at 1st attempt. Your exposure is good. Your CWB is set nicely, don't have to redo.

I did pp on the photos and managed to get the blue sky and your trees looks even better.
If you find the trees are pinky, you can use Hue/Saturation and reduce the saturation in Red Channel.
Think you did not process the picture. See #6 in this thread.

Hope you don't mind me posting pp your picture. Do let me know if no go

Good job! You got it !

Cheers!

Hi taipankid,

Your CWB seem ok, may not need to reset it. But if you wish to, you can experiments with different CWB.

After shooting you need to do Channel Swap, and Hue/Saturation adjusments for the trees to be white and the blue sky. If that is what you want. Or you may even tweek it to be different colors. The cotton look of tree on the right of the picture looks good with a slight breeze blowing.

Here's my attempt at your picture. I did channel swap, hue/saturation, slight usm, 'S" curve for contrast

Hi taipankid,

If you were to take what "photoexpress" has done here and put some colour to the 2 guys shirts and tweeked the curve like a little less than "teerex"
You could end up with a great photo.

But........ you might have to find a way of PS'ing out the bit at top left hand corner.

Good, sorry, very good IR for a first one !

Cheers

Thanks very much for the great tips from the 3 guru Teerex, pablo and photoexpress.

I went back to PS and play a bit with it from all the tips.

Final result as shown.
decided to keep some "tint" on the leaves to avoid it being too "white/washout"

I realised when adjusting the Hue/saturation, it introduce a lot of noise into the photo.

Comments again appreciated. and thanks again for the advise and encourangement.

taipankid,

You've got it. How you want the final result is purely individual.

Run your final result through a noise reduction s/w like Neat Image if it has too much noise.

Played with your pic again this morning, hope you don't mind.

Hi taipankid,

I like what you have done here.

Could you drop a bit of colour on the guys shirts... or better still un-do the history on those shirts with the history brush ?

Either way, I like what you have done here.

Cheers
