Default 22 Feb 06 AA show

First time taking an air show.... (and definitely non macro)....spend more time looking up than down

You can see the shots here

Appreciate your comments!

Thanks!

there's some chromatic abbarations on the images but they're neverless great images.

man, my chances of getting some good ones are, well good! mine sharing what settings you used? did you use the high speed focusing?

Ya, the CA is quite obvious esp on the first one.

I used M mode and MF. Tried with the spot focus off, and found the focus not so good for the small F16. So switch to spot, and track the plane and flick AF down to focus....not fast enough though....I guess the Venus II would be faster.

I used shutter speeds of >1/500 and adjusted the Apeture accordingly. So about 1/500-800s for speed and F4-5+ for apeture.

Not sure if you ever try to set it to Shutter priority under the MF mode instead of Aperture priority?

That will be able to help you in controlling the shutter speed, and you certainly will be able to capture fast flying air plane better than using M or Aperture priority mode.

This goes the same when capturing Biathlon shots, especially bicycle shots, need to be fast...

I did not try to use shutter priority as I did not want the camera to determine the exposure itself, hence used M mode and choose the shutter speed I want, and adjust A to the exposure I wanted. First time taking, and could not assess whether ok or not...just shoot first and edit later!

You are indeed very adventurous!

Guess different people will have different methods and objectives. I am one of those who are relying on the camera's help a little too much, just apply the theory, and let the camera do the job.
