Was invited by Airbus to visit the aircraft. Great tour by the Airbus engineers. |

Just wondering if you noticed this during your tour: http://img506.imageshack.us/img506/4...cropped1kx.jpg Circled area. Is that a damage on the wing? ![]() Last edited by rinaldi86; 24th February 2006 at 11:40 PM. |

Nope. Tour was interior only, they didnt let us have a good shot of the aircraft with the proper lighting conditions.

Good shots given the lighting conditions.
It that the completed plane? Why are the upper & lower decks filled with the cylinders? . |

Judging from the interior, I guess not ready for revenue service. This aircraft just came from Canada on cold weather testing.
The cylinders are filled with water (or beer, wine, etc) to simulate weight of a fully decked out aircraft. The extra weight also provides stability in flight. Interestingly, the name of the pilot flying the A380 here is a gentleman called Fernando Alonso. No kidding. |

Oh I had the impression it was a Brit, cos the name given to me was a Richard something, and he sounded very British too (heard him on the radio whilst in the cockpit of the CRJ900).
Anyway, the aircraft is still a test aircraft undergoing certification trials. The computers at the back record 200,000 parameters which they will analyze once they get back to Toulouse. |

Thanks for posting Tango3. Great tour. Just wondering, what are the large round vents in the first photo? They are on the left and right sides toward the front just behind the first row of seats. They look like exhaust vents of some type.
Thanks, -steve |

They're heating equipment. IIRC it is to test the electrical supply when there is a high load. |
