Default D50 AF Assist Light

Hi, I read from the manual that we can disable the AF assist light from the custom settings item 7. But there is no item 7 in my custom setting menu! Why is this so? Anything wrong with my camera?

At least you learned something today... next time try digging the manual first, it's faster than asking here...

i did. the thing is the manual told me that the light can be turned off at the custom menu item 7. but way after that then it stated that u need to change the setup menu to detailed to access item 7 and later. it's natural that i will fiddle with the camera while reading the manual rite? can't possibly read through the whole damn book then start to touch my camera, which by then i would have forgotton everything.

for such a thing, i do feel it's faster if some experienced user can just point out a word or two to me, it's not like i'm leaving the manual in the box and hope to be spoon-fed.

Before I bought my first SLR (D70), I downloaded its manual, read it twice before buying it. Took a lot of time but when I finally got my hands on the D70, it's like meeting an old friend.

anyway just a note. all settings will allow AF assist to be on and off, but landscape and sports scene mode when on will automatically off the AF assist setting/light as they will not serves its function to enhancing contrast to speed up auto-focus.

A very noob question here, hope you all don't mind.
Under what circumstances do you need to turn off the AF assist light?
