Can d2x or d200 work with olympus flash fl50??

no idea, maybe at best is in manual mode only.

As long as the flash supports Auto or Manual mode. But if I can own a D2X/D200, I'd rather own a SB-800 to go with it.

think a brandnew FL50 is around the same price or more expensive than the SB800
the auto modes on the FL50 should work fine since the sensor on the FL50 will be the one determining proper flash exposure. but u need to "sync" the settings (mainly aperture, iso and zoom) on flash with the camera+lens though (as with any other auto flash).but of course, you won't be able to make use of the FP flash mode and wireless trigger which are only available on the dedicated nikon i-TTL flash.
