right now, i am still extremely utterly confuse in whether to get the KM 7D or 20D. so, i decided to post in a canon forum and ask the 20D users what you hate about the 20D. thanks for helping me make my choice.

Only two things
#1 Brighter viewfinder #2 AF accuracy in sports mode To get #1, its probably fullframe. To get #2, your need something like the AF system on a 1 series camera. Having said that and being amongst the first to acquire the 20D in Sep 2004, I have yet to be really disappointed with the camera. Images are very good even when taken at ISO3200, properly exposed of course to reduce shadow noise. |

go for the 7D.
What i dun like about canon is that they had segmented their cameras. So some good features are only found on the higher end models. The shutter is loud, and the shutter button is hard. The 7D on the other hand have about one of the best shutter i've heard and soft shutter release 20D will win in terms of the sensor. But the 7D sensor is formadiable already. Many pple will tell u that canon's a better system to buy into cos of the extensive range of lens. They do have a lot of lens, but u probably dun need so many. The popular and useful range are also avaliable on the KM system. and the anti-shake is something to die for. If i have to choose my system again. I might go for minolta. |

well well let me say something on both cameras. EOS 20D had 8mp CMOS that win Dynax 7D, EOS 20D can print bigger photo. Dynax 7D had anti Shake that win EOS 20 D Dynax 7D can help u to save $$$ on lens. These are the main point of both. It really depen on u see whether which function is more important. Well do some research on both camera. If not u may regarde after buying.

I think we all want a brighter viewfinder. Not necessarily 100% but brighter. Also, a focusing screen with micro-prisms would be nice for MF. There's no need to go FF for a brighter finder, as nikon has proven. Also, i wish the sensor would handle reds better. For some reason, having shot the 1d, 1dm2, 20d, d1x, d1h, d100, p20 cameras, i still can't find one that can handle reds well. There is a tendency to over saturate and or over expose the red channel. Can someone sort this out?

I have to agree with many others, the mirror slap is very obtrusive in some quiet environments.

Nothing much to hate about 20D and it has great resale value.
Buy a KM and its accessories and I am afraid resale value will not hold up well ... |

Personally I do not own a 20D, but I do have its predecessor, 10D. But have handled 20D before on some occasions.
What I dislike about it (in decreasing order): 1. Mirror slap. Obscenely loud and crass sounding, one of the worst mirror slap sounds I have ever heard on an SLR. In comparison, 10D's mirror slap is smooth sounding and quieter. 2. Viewfinder. Horribly small and dim excuse for a VF. At effective aperture f5.6 and above, very 'grainy' effect. Why don't Canon wake up their ideas and take a look at what KM had done on their 7D. One of the best, largest and brightest viewfinder/focusing screen amongst the current crop of 1.5x/1.6x crop prosumer bodies. (even marginally better than D200's, which is also very bright) 3. Multi-way controller joystick. PITA to use when scrolling around magnified images. (ie. too small and hard to control). Scrolling using the control wheel/dial (ala 10D) would be more practical. The main good points of 20D is its exceptional image quality, and low noise at high ISOs, which are much much improved than 10D's. Sure its not a perfect camera, but if you can live with the flaws, its quite good really. More working full time/part time pros seem to like using this body, as an alternative or back up system to the heavy pro 1 series bodies. The good noise control at high ISOs make it an excellent cam for indoor events and weddings. |

IF the 20D produces that kinda sound (combination of shutter and mirror) then I will be in LOVE!!! Used my friend's 350D the other day (testing to see if I would like a 350D), I sort of miss that kinda sound you hear when you shoot on a SLR back then.
So after that, fire a few shots on the remaining roll of film on my EOS 3. Music to my ears...

how do you fellas find the AF system of the 20D?
my experience with it (several different units actually..) gives me the feel that I cannot rely on its AF except center-focus pt + one-shot mode. and even so, the AF is not consistently dead-on focused. im quite a pixel-peeker who does large prints once in awhile. so maybe tt's y i notice it more? |
