Hi peeps I was at the motorshow today. Took some photos at with my 717 at 5 megapixels resolution for the first time. I was in program mode with flash forced off. The images looked noisy to me even though they were in ISO 100. some others were up to ISO200 I used auto ISO. But this particular one for example was ISO 100 and it seems to have quite a bit of noise can someone diagnose for me? photos taken at lower resolution do not seem to be so grainy. Its here the original file

This is normal.
Want something even better? You'll need larger sensors (read: D30/60/1D/1Ds) ![]() |

When you shoot at a lower resolution, the camera downsizes the image internally from the original 5mp image, that's why the grains are gone. If you take the 5mp pic and downsize it yourself in PS, you should achieve similar effect as that done by the camera when you shoot at a lower resolution. Advantage of shooting at lower res is of coz the savings in disk space (since MS largest now is only 128mb). Disadvantage is that you don't have you full size image (5mp) when you need it for processing or printing. |

guess I either have to live with the photos or run something like neat image on it here http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/~tohjiahs...0_filtered.jpg but with my slow computer it takes about half an hour for each image! thanks for the answer guys

i think for fred's actions if you apply too much it'll blur the edges. if you apply too little the grains will still be there only lesser =p
