    Aiyah!

    One simple answer.

Double standards! They say that it is the photographer's right to photograph anything in public, but when they are in puiblic, then other photographers do not have the right to photograph them!

This is a fine example why certain type of humans are also known
as hypocrite. I have been observing this peculiar behavior of
photographers and discover many things about the normal human
being holding the camera for a living or just for a hobby.

    ----------------------------
So I would avoid calling another human a hypocrite because I am already born as one.

More than once, I had met such ppl here. Makes me feel like puking.

Overseas, even in vouyer haven Japan, I never had problems in street shooting where ladies see my cam and cover their face. The most, they stop for a while, look & giggle a little.

A smile & a slight bow usually will let u get ur way there.

Only one type of people I didnt really dare to point my camera directly at but instead act as if Im talking to a friend but the camera snapping away with out me looking at the view finder. Just aim in the general direction and snap.

These are those black suited young men with funky hairstyles standing around prominent meeting places in Japan approaching girls to work in AV or as waitresses in men's clubs.

    once..

i visited a native tribe in a far-flung corner deep in the jungles of the asian continent..

i took along my dslr to photograph the tribesmen for an anthrology project.

i grouped them for a group portrait and fired off a shot with flash.

the tribesmen gasped and exclaimed (via my translator) "behold the God with lightning in his palm!"

then the elderly matriarch fainted, apparently overwhelmed by the 'miracle'.

attempting to calm the tribesmen, to show them it's just the work of human technological advancement...i showed them the photo i've just taken via the dslr LCD screen...

and the tribesmen threw themselves on me "you took our souls! you took Grandma's soul!"

People like to be treated with a minimum of respect, and many photographers are utterly rude and disrespectful - either in the way they obtain photographs, or in the way they use them.

To give an example, at last weekend's Thaipusam festival, I saw one photographer who stuck his lens literally in the face (50cm away) of a devotee who just got pierced. I would think such behaviour is extremely rude in normal circumstances, but inexcusable towards a devotee to whom the entire ritual is first and foremost an important spiritual affair.

I can't be sure why people are camera shy but I am very sure that when people pays for the photo, they are very sure that they want their photo to be taken.
