Default Tc hardly focused??

Recently I got a chance to try my friend's TeleConverter... the brand is proTAMA 52mm 2x if I'm not mistaken. Just wondering why it doesn't work with my FZ20? Find it almost impossible to use auto focus, and manual focus also very hard to achieve... already change the menu inside to TC... still didn't work out... Any idea why? Need some enlightenment here... :: Thanks.

Did you zoom in when you tried to focus using your TC?

What if you try to focus using only 3X zoom? will it work?

Lastly, a stupid question: Are you trying to focus at low light or at night?

Just thought you might want to try focusing without zooming in...some times if you were to zoom in too much, it might be difficult to focus, even dSLR has the same challenge too.

I personally have not used any TC yet, just my experience in using dSLR that I am sharing with you...

bro,
think I got ur problem in the beginning when i got my FZ5.
got a Giobartig TC oso, have almost the same problem.
but when i use the B300, don't hv this problem any more
unless my subject is very close to the camera
i hv tried using auto focus & it works fine.
this is my experience with a cheap TC

pic below with B300 taken of the moon

So, u think it's because of the quality of the lens itself? Yes it is a cheap TC... anybody cares to elaborate more why it is happened? I think a lot of noobies like me here really keen on this info... so... my dear 'sifus'... please come down to help us...

There are a few reasons for unable to focus. Did you focus on an object nearer than the minimum focus distance? Was the object too dark, or too consistent in color? Maybe you can discribe the scenaro, see if we can help. Not heard of proTama tho'.

As far as I've tried, the Olympus TCON-17 works fine on both the FZ5 and FZ20.

Huggable,
Now I know the problem... it's just won't focused if the object is too near (0-3m) But now can focused but the result grainy leh (especially if the object is very far)... on the LCD ok... but after snapped... kinda using soft filter... iz it lens faulty? Thanks everybody...

Last time I am also using the Tcon17 on my previous FZ20, work fine too.
Think it also depend on the Tcon quality..

So the object wasn't out of focus, but soft? Think that's the limitation of the lens. At 432mm (12x zoom) + 1.4/1.7 TC, the image quality would definately be degraded.

Yup, I think so, bro... so how far it can possibly reach (of course with a good quality)... according to your experience?

With a steady hand, my FZ5 is able to take pictures of acceptable quality at 12x zoom. Didn't really get perfect pictures with the TCon at max zoom.

Okay, so now it is confirmed the pic quality with the TCON (any brand-at the maximum magnification) is really unreliable. Have you read my other thread (newest) in this Panasonic forum? I just used TCON in 'duck' shooting in SBG this morning... quite good and tolerable at the 7x max... after that...
Btw, really love your avatar that closely depicted your nick... ur son iz it? Suppa Cute!
