Default Macro Questions

Hi Gurus,

Got a couple of questions:

1) Which lens (short of hooking up to a microscope) would give the smallest field of view, ie, could you take a photo of a housefly, and it fills the entire screen screen? (Without cropping)

2) How is it that some P&S cameras in macro mode can effectively put the camera touching the object to be photographed and the item will be in focus, but with an SLR, the closest seems to be a few CM away?

Thanks
