Default Shooting Slides or Negatives?

I was thinking of this a very long time already. Should i shoot with slides or just the usual negatives? I know slides produce far better results but all round costs is greater so i'm not sure which is more worth it.

Slides are difficult to shoot with, very unforgiving for over/under exposure but when you get it right negs don't come close.

The question is really what do you shoot and what do you do with your images afterwards.

I shoot all sorts of things from macro to landscapes and events. Usually i request to scan all my images into a CD, only nice ones then i'll print it out.

Well I shot both last time, but now only negative, cos hard to gather all members to view projection, print is portable to show around.

If u want dramatic impact and lifelike 3d,and only projecting for viewing, then no question shoot slide, never mind the cost or scanning into computer.

If u want to print and show photo only, then shoot negative.
If u want only make cd,not project or print ,then use only dslr,my personal opinion cos u cant have the convenience of all format into one,in life.

Can't afford a DSLR for now until i start working. So my EOS 30 have to do all the work. Trying to save as much but slides are significantly more costly. Maybe one day can buy a roll of slide film to try.

Can slides be processed into a CD just like negatives?

yeah. its just a matter of scanning them and saving into CD, just like any other normal negatives.

true... depending on wat kind of slides u are buying. fuji sensia is pretty afforable, for slides. ard $6/roll. developing costs for slides is ard $8-$10, IIRC. i just dump all the slides in the shop, ask them to process, then scan into CD. so, they always give me one lump figure.

actually, shooting slides, while a little more expensive, does train u to be dead-on in exposure controls and all other basic shooting skills cos its very unforgiving. do give it a go from time to time? its really worth the effort and $, IMO (not to mention the lovely colours, if u get it rite).

Yes...my friend at Alan Photo did ask me to go for slides instead of negatives and said also that slides are more difficult to take as the number of stops of light have been reduced more significantly than negatives so a bit over and underexpose will cause the effects on the slides to be horrible.

Maybe i should try shooting slides soon, haven't tried it before but i presume my first slides will be quite bad as i'm used to negatives.

you can try fuji sensia first (about $6.80/roll) before you splurge on velvia

Essentially you only save $2 over the entire workflow. Just get provia, the scanning and processing costs are all the same. Results are much better IMO.

If you intend to shoot negs it's my honest opinion that you're better off shooting digital. Negs don't have a fantastic advantage over digital output.

yup...kind of entry level. its non-pro so guess you can even keep it at room temperature.

Cos i saw some with the word 'professional' on it such as provia. Usually for my negatives i keep them at room temperature in my camera bag.
