A powerbook would be a good choice, but at your budget you can only get the 12" one which is a little small for my taste for editing. Perhaps you could try sourcing for 2nd hand powerbooks. Don't bother with the ibooks because they use inferior LCDs compared to their more expensive brothers.

For fast and reliable, go for AMD Turion-based machines which beat Centrinos in terms of floating point calculations and RAM access speed. Few brands which have models using the AMD Turion processor are Fujitsu, Acer, HP and Compaq.

Get a Mac, you won't regret, and probably never go back to PC... Come to the bright side !

POWER BOOK is the answer before you start running in circles. Mine is a 12" and a workhorse for the past few years. Although small but good enough to do seamless DI work for international clients.

I think the thread starter can just use the process of elimination to find his laptop.

Yah right.. you joker... that beast probably weighs 8KG, is 3inches thick, will burn your lap if you rest it there and have a battery life of 1.5hr. So much for image processing on the go.

if not colour critical work any P4 laptop with 512mb will do a decent job with pscs.

You sure can last so long with CPU intensive apps such as photoshop? I don't believe, surf net and word processing maybe can.

I am actually very interested to know how does the battery performs when you do intensive works.
I use a ibook and at max (RAW-TIFF conversion) + PSCS, it will survive for around 2hrs max.
