Hi Guys & Girls
Does any one here uses the EP-1 or EP-2 external power pack for Minolta flashes ? I need some info is it only 2 pins that is active ? whe does the flash have a 3rd pin ... ? can you put a multimeter to the pins and tell me approx voltage and polarity ? Just wondering if there is some deep circuitry or is it just an expensive battery box and cable. Thanks |

Hello, I've talked to a KM tech, and he says that the three pins are +ve, -ve and ground, something like the system we have in our home AC sockets. Apparently, (though I'm not sure how it works), the charging voltage is the same but the voltage from the extra two batteries is converted to extra charging current, hence the shorter charging time.
I'm not really sure about the 2nd point though, any one with knowledge on capacitance and stuff can care to help? Cheers QX |

Hmmm
I have good cause to suspect, there is a mini inverter in the EP-1/2 that will convert the current to AC, then step up current to 330volts, then rectify to DC again ![]() Most prob it's more worth it to buy the EP-2 then to try to build and blow up the 5600HS.... So much for reverse engineering .. unless some one volunteers to open up one : ) |

Hmm. Can you explain the step-up part?
Cheers, QX I thought it might be: 9VDC => AC current => Step down =>Rectify to 6VDC with capacitor regulation. Just speculation =) QX |

got respond from the Minolta Yahoo Group
> The label on my EP-1 states: > >INPUT 9V 8.5W >OUTPUT 330V 2.5W > >The label on an EP-2 states: > >INPUT Use type AA batteries >OUTPUT 330V 2.5W > here's the link to pict posted http://www.hjreggel.net/digiphoto/D7Hi/EP-2_Back.jpg the high voltage/low amp allows the caps to charge must faster than low voltage/high amp at least thats what i understand... |

Sorry, OT slightly.
How much does it cost to buy a EP-2 now? |
