Default Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve

After checking the tides, I feel like going to spend the day at SBWR this Sunday, 5.2.2006.
I intend to start at 7.00 am and leave via the Kranji Trail in the late afternoon.
Anyone keen to join me?

No problem. However, I thought you mentioned in your thread in another sub-forum that you will be engaged in a competition on that day?

Why? A trip to SBWR is just a walk in the park.

Slivester - Ok. Anyone is free to leave or stay anytime.

Why, birds, of course.

Just a note though, getting very little birds within the reserve during this period of the year. I am relying on public transportation, so it might be unexpectable; SMRT 925's frequency range is around 30 to 35 minutes at 6:30am.

I last shot the painted storks on 2 Jan and I think I saw them leave. They were a magnificent sight, flying northwards in arrowhead formation just was I was walking back towards the visitor centre. When I went a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't find any but I did encounter a lot of other birds including flocks of pacific swallows and other shorebirds. There still will be some residents e.g. kingfishers, herons, egrets and other waders plus the "forest birds".
I agree with you on the irregular frequency of bus service 925. So perhaps, let's meet up at Kranji MRT station at 7.00 a.m. and share a cab into SBWR with anyone else who wants to join us. My handphone no is (9) 679-5784.

Oh, I am very unexperienced with birds, so this will probably be my eye-opener or so on. I heard news regarding infected birds are within the compound, and that SBWR is closed, can anyone verify that?

Didn't hear of anything like that. Where did you get the "news"?
I know SBWR like the back of my hand. There's more ways to go into SBWR other than the main gate.
If there are infected birds, I want to get pics.
It's okay if you want to be safe. I will go on my own if you don't show by 7.00 a.m.

No, I am not deterred by the "rumour", I was in stadium earlier and overheard that. I really need someone who knows about SBWR to sort of guide me for free .

I will meet you at the ticketing counter at 7am sharp, though I am subjected to any delay of the feeder bus. Anyway, are you equipped with super telezoom guns?

*Changes at 11:49pm*
I was just informed by my pal that our preparation session have been brought forward to late morning; we are invited to have dinner with a competiting team.

I am sorry pal, next time!

It's okay. I will be going again though probably not until mid-March as I will be travelling.

Confirmed "rumour" false. SBWR open as usual and no sign of sick birds.
Next, I assumed wrongly that the storks had left. They arrived in SBWR just as I was walking thru the main gate. Tracked them down and managed to get close enough to get some shots that filled the frame at 300mm.

300mm, Av:f5.6, Tv: 1/500, iso:200

Many of the birds are still there though saw lesser in numbers - probably because a couple of raptors were circling the area. However, found a new "friend" I had been trying to get a shot of on every visit but failed. Guess Sulhan's wishing me luck really brought it on.

500 mm, Av: f16, Tv: 1/25, iso:200
Sorry about the twigs getting into the pic but I had to shoot through openings in the bush or get into the water (no way I want to do that).
