Default 4/3 Adapter for Oly E Series

Mass order....

http://www.cameraquest.com/adapt_olyE1.htm

Imagine using these lenses for portraiture. MTF tests show very high performance:

LeicaR Summicron-R 50/2

LeicaR Summicron-R 90/2

Are you sourcing from Cameraquest or are you looking at alternative sources that are cheaper? I am interested if they are not Cameraquest prices!

It was too late, I already got the one from CameraQuest for the Leica R 4/3 adapter. Shipping is US$10.

Sorry, hijacked your thread. I am curious, when you use the adaptor on lens on any camera, will you be losing any F-Stop? Will the focusing or magnifying factor be affected?

From a technical point, yes. Any distance away from the sensor will lose some light (like any extension tube). You also get additional magnification. However, the distance is very, very small, so it should be unnoticeable.

Thanks, am I correct to say the loss in F-stop is very minor, abt 0.3 to 0.5?

lesser than that. its virtually negligible. u r looking at an adaptor with thickness about 8mm - 10mm. an ext tube is about 25mm thick (long), & it doesn't introduce noticeable light loss.

BUY LAH!!! its a whole world of fun with adaptors.

Thanks for the advise. Unfortunately, I don't Oylmpus SLR system, only an prosumer Oylmpus. So, I cannot play with the adapter. May consider getting the SLR system only if my cam spolit. At that moment of time, then I can consider getting an adapter for my Nikon lens.

#2 Hand held, using the Sumicron 50f2mm, 1/20, f2.0

#3 Hand held, using the Sumicron 50f2mm, 1/2, f2.0

If you got the E-1, BBB, MTL!!!!

I'm using the E-500 and here are some issues:

(1) Focusing is very difficult if light is low. There is no focusing screen like the E-1 or replacement like the Katz-Eye (http://www.katzeyeoptics.com/cat--Ol...t_olympus.html)

(2) ME-1 Eyecup useless if using with the E-500.

(3) Adapter is very well built. Perfect coupling at the 4/3 mount and some tightness (negligible) at the Leica R coupling.

(4) I also have the B+W Soft Image.

If you have the E-1, let me repeat...BBB!!!! The Leica colors are very different from the Oly ones. There's this 3D quality that is amazing.

So my gear above? SSS

Unfortunately, there is no portrait lens on the Oly lineup, so have to go this route, or go to the dark side with 5D and 85mm1.2.

haha.. yes! i am pretty sold to your pictures
Seems that the "3D elements" is working very nicely. How much you spent on the
Summicron-R lenses?
Sorry, but haven did any research on LeicaR stuff before. Seems that those stuff are pretty old (1970s ?).

Why not add those prices onto the oly equipment prices for all to reference.

Actually, with various adapters, one can use lenses from Nikon, OM, Contax, etc. But Lecia prices should be under Leica...

Can someone define what's a portrait lens? What's the characteristic of a portrait lens?

Must a portrait lens be a prime lens?

Can we really shoot at f1.2 with such a shallow DOF?

A portrait lens should be very sharp or slightly soft that's friendly to human skin?

Do we really need soft at the lens level and not in post?

I'm really puzzled.

In the classical sense, portrait lens preferably should not be too contrasty and compliment the subject by being a bit soft or pastel like in the rendition of colors.

Obviously, you can use any lens to shoot a portrait with any effect that you want.
