Say with a budget of S$3k, which is better purchase (from B&S section)?
1) 20D + 17-40 f/4L 2) 10D + 17-40 f/4L + 70-200 f/4L Be it I don't need the following features from 20D: - fast start up time - high usable ISO (>800) can compensate with neat image. - high fps rate - larger buffer (usually I use AF-Single) - 8 mp Is there any significant Image quality gain from 20D over 10D if using above f/4L lenses? Need your experience tips ![]() Thanks much. |

to save spendings, use EF-s lens for wide angle.
the 18-55 is available for $100 used. versus $1000+ for the 17-40L |

What about a 350D instead of 10D if you have budget constraint?
What I experience on 10D is its really a slow (on almost every aspect) body!

There is no rumour but there is always a better model superceding the existing model in Canon's product portfolio roadmap. This is just business!

Given your budget, get 2nd option.
The 20D's AF is significantly better though... . |

my application mainly family photos and sometimes landscape, nature.
Currently own D70, but somehow still attracted by Canon's L color / image quality. That's one of the factor why coming C camp. ![]() From the reply above, seems opt2 is a better purchase. What if: opt3 10D + 24-105 f/4L IS USM ? Thanks all for your kind input, I'll try to wait a little longer and see how the situation. ![]() |

For the price of 24-105 f4, u could have bought both 17-40 and 70-200 f4 .. and the latter will cover almost all your focal needs if coupled with a good flash. The IS isn't very necessary ..esp if you are on a budget. You may find 17-40 not wide enough, try ef-s 10-22, its an L lens optical construction but didn't get an L because of body build. 70-200 f4 is very hard to use indoors or overcast conditions. 24-105 can still get away in indoor conditions using low shutter speeds and high ISO (no flash) with IS. |

since u dont need any of the things u stated (anyway, 20D is not much better than 10D at >800) if not buying now, wait for 20D replacement. |

you have answered your own question... you don't need the additional features of the 20D... 10D is more than sufficient and you get a fantastic zoom lens as well.
no brainer! I had the exact same decision and the 10D is a great cam. |

Since u dun need the features of 20D, go for option (2) - 10D + 17-40 f/4L + 70-200 f/4L

the bigger buffer is to support more bursts.
dont be so sure tt u wont want the high iso and 5fps. if u shoot any sports at all u'll desire 8.5fps like me. i dont see why u'll choose the 10d over the 350d(except for price maybe) as the 350d wins in all aspects. the 18-55 is in a different league with the 17-40. u can consider the sigma 70-200 or tokina 80-200(cheaper thn sigma) instead |

So, the color, saturation, constrast straight out from both 20D, 10D will have no significant difference?
Ya, so far over my 2 years shooting style, I don't have any shot on sport related picture. Mainly indoor shooting my kids, outdoor landscape and sometimes nature/ butterfly/ dragonfly. I'm thinking I can settle with 70-200 f/4L + an ext. tube for such requirement. As for why I don't choose 350D over 10D is mainly 350D body built, size, layout, single dial. anyway, now very hard to see 10D out on sales ![]() |
