Don't have much experience with this, so I cannot comment in detail. But here's what I would do if I were in your shoes:

    Stage:

Bump ISO up to 800 or even 1600 straight away. In order to avoid camera shake and freeze slower motion, you might want to try for a shutter speed no slower than about 1/60 second. At very worse, go only as low as 1/40 second. Alternatively, if you cannot achieve a fast enough shutter speed, then try for speeds such as 1/15s and look to capture motion as a blur of colour and energy. Depending on how close the stage is, you can also try using the pop-up flash and switch the camera over to aperture priority mode. But if your subjects are any more than about 10m away from you, even at ISO 1600, a built-in flash is next to useless.

Speaking of aperture priority, open the aperture as wide as you can. A good lens for stage photography might actually be the 50mm f/1.8 prime. With this lens, stopping down a little to f/2 might give you better colour and sharpness.

    Fireworks:

Most recommend something along the lines of f/8-11 and a shutter speed of 1-3 seconds. ISO should be kept as low as possible. Alternatively, if you have a remote shutter release or cable release, take a black card with you. Fire off the shutter remotely while the black card is held close in front of the lens. Remove it when you want to capture some trails of fireworks and cover the lens again when you want to stop recording temporarily. When you are satisfied and want to move to the next frame, cut off the exposure by triggering the shutter remotely again. Then expose the next frame in a similar fashion.

Best of luck. Let us know how it went.

    Hi there,

Just can read up this article on how to shoot fireworks. If not, simply do a search in this forum, there are quite a few topics discussing about fireworks photography. Happy New Year to you too.
