Question E-500 Flash X-Sync : Need Help

Hi,

Need advice here.

I had set the x-sync to 1/180. However, when shooting with the build-in flash on, I cannot set my shutter speed beyond 1/160.

Why? I had tried this in both M and S mode.

Thanks in advance!

Just set your flash to FP mode.

If it works like Canon or Nikon, you can set faster, e.g. 1/200 and the camera will probably adjust to 1/180.

hmmm... just tried that...nope. Can't go beyond the x-sync limit.

Anyway, I only have the build-in flash to play with. Saving up for an external flash

There is a whole bunch of things you can shoot without flash. Better to force yourself not to use flash and use natural light. You will learn things very quickly.

Not really, there are shots that you just can't take with natural light, if there is indeed any. Yesterday I was in a workshop and all we used was flash, strobes, and artificial lighting with sheets and soft boxes.

Yes you have to learn how to use the light you have, but you should also learn how to use the tools in your gadget bag.

For instance, this shot you could never do with natural light...it was done in a dark room, holding the lens open, and firing the flash multiple times:

I'm referring to learning to use natural light instead of being overly reliant on flash. Obviously, flash is needed in certain situations.

I normally tried not to use build-in flash...I would prefer 'natural' lighting or ambience light. However, sometimes no choice and was 'forced' to pop up the flash. With only build-in flash in my arsenal and not very bright lens... at times the results were not very pleasing (also factor in the lack of skill).

Hoping to get a FL-36 or FL-50 soon and have more flexibilties with the light.
