Selling photographs to Publishers is tough here and everywhere else not unless you know them or you are better than the rest. Being known in the industry by clients is the most important than being well known by fellow photographers. I am lucky to know quite a number of friends working in International Publishers that give me jobs by and by. The truth is, if you don't know them they don't even have the time to look at your work. Stay as a hobbist might not be a bad thing for I had interview so many people in the past wanting to be photographer without knowing 'wanting to be' and 'able to be' is far apart. Well, maybe you are real good and I must say go for it if you think you can do it. I remember saw somewhere regarding this young lady that travelled alone to places during her school holidays and sell images to publishers after that. A brave young lady indeed.

    Ok, back to to topic.

Many amateur photographers trying to use freelancing in photography to finance their hobby, is possible, and many professional also start out this way.

But when you do it as freelancing, you must treat it as doing a business, even it is very small scale.

It is almost impossible to find something that nobody has done it before, all you can do is do like many other freelancers doing now and do better than them. Like shooting a event, you have to shoot better than many others to be able to stay in the business.

On an average, doing part time freelancing, you need at least 3~4years to build up your business, that is base on your shooting skills are quite OK.

And don't forget you also need to invest your money and time to build your business.

Many people think doing freelancing can earn some quick bucks, but the reality is just like the old saying: “Easy come, easy go.” These people come easily, gone also easily, don't even leave a trace of their existence.
