    Not surprising, now that Samsung has released a K-mount DSLR. I'm wondering which other companies would fold up or merge.

    KM -> Sony
    Pentax -> Samsung (?)
    Contax -> ? [are they still alive?]
    Kodak -> ? [DSLRs production stopped already]
    Leica -> Panasonic (?)

    Pentax has quite a big pro user base in japan...and is making profits(very little).....the company is still healthy compare to KM. Contax is more of a past(brand own by Carl Zeiss)..unless cosina or another parent wanna take them in. Kodak is doing well in the compact digital cameras and sensors...its dslr dept is long gone. Leica is almost gone last year untill a new pile of money is injected into the company....Leica is own by Hermes anyway!!

    FYI, Pentax has a new distributor in Singapore.

    Shriro Singapore Pte Ltd. They'r also the owner of Hasselblad.
    They should be promoting the pentex in next coming months
    The previous agent had not being doing much for the brand thus the deminishing feel in the past.

    So, those who has Pentax, don't worry, it's still alive in Singapore.
    I am very sure the new distributor is very enthusiatic in bring up the Pentax brand.
    This will also include their range of dslr.

    Hope that isn't gonna be the case cos more competition are good for consumer like us. Will make the so call leading makers to sit up rather than lull into complacence to produce better product at a better price.

    More accurately, they are co-operating to work on manufacturing DSLRs. Pentax has a history with working with other companies, often by supplying their lenses and their partners supplying the electronics. HP and Casio are the recent examples in the compact digital cameras market.

    I wouldn't be surprised to find Pentax making lenses for mobile phones in the future, if they are not already doing so.

    ... I also read somewhere that Pentax will introduce a high-end pro DSLR next year, but I can't seem to find it now. I think they're trying to do the "LX" thing in DSLRs again.

    The British Journal of Photography? Yeah, they always get the juicy Pentax news ;-) Maybe the MZ-D will finally be here. But given their track record for "high-end" products, it makes me wonder if this will be yet another half-hearted approach to wooing the professional market.

    Since the release of the LX, Pentax seems to have subscribed to the idea that professionals shoot with medium format, and small format are for hobbyists. Their product lines seems to suggest this as well. I think with professionals dumping medium format for digital cameras these days, Pentax is finally getting their act together to try to capture this market.

    Hope their new SLRs incorporates the Pentax anti-shake (sensor-based!) system!

    Just because Pentax's presence in Sg is small doesn't mean it's not doing well elsewhere.
    In Australia, Pentax is quite well received and popular. The Ist line of dSLRs are good cameras, better in some ways than the equivalent Canon or Nikon, one of which is price for a start - they are 30-40% cheaper.

    The fact that they have teamed up with electronics giant, Samsung might be not be a bad thing. Expanding their customer base and Samsung's product line with dSLRs. Samsung used to own Rollei (before their German directors bought they out) so have a bit of experience running a Photo equipment company plus a working relationship with glass manufacturers like Schneider.
