Default The FUN of using the FZ30

Because of the light weight, I'm able to bring my FZ30 to work almost everyday. This has enabled me to capture impromptu shots, which otherwise will be impossible if I have to lug more than 4kg of equipments around...

Are the shots plagued by noise? Of course there are noise, but hey...I didn't buy the FZ30for noise-free images, but for the FUN element and portability.

Shot near my workplace at Newton. The two parrots were quarelling with some mynahs but they spotted me with my camera and graciously posed for me...

Actually, I got no choice but to use 3MP EZ because I don't have TCON-17. Been trying to shop around for a new or used TCON-17, but can't find...Seem that many shops don't keep it anymore.

Hi calvinlo,
I would like to know whether picture from using 3MP Extended Zoom 'and' cropping the pix after 8MP Normal 12X Zoom will be the same or not. Still confused.
Please explain. Thanks!

They will achieve the same effect...However, I prefer to use the 3PM EZ because subject is much bigger in my EVF (really like looking through a 660mm lens), which allows me to meter and focus better. If you don't use EZ, even at 12X, the subject may be too small for the camera to meter the exposure and to focus acurrately.

Hope this helps...

Umm if i'm not wrong the 3MP EZ means it cropps the center 3mp from the image to give a virtual zoom by diong a fov crop (like most dlrs)

Have u mistaken it for an extra piece of lens that u can buy?

I think it stands for 3 mega pixal extented zoom. It's part of the cam. It function as a super long optical zoom, that make use of a smaller part of the ccd, hence u get less mega pixal.

You're right. It's nothing more than a crop to give the impression of a longer zoom. ...... very much the same way a smaller CCD sensor gives the impression of a more powerful zoom in when the focal length actually is not long. The actual focal length of the FZ30 is 7.4-88.8mm only.
