Well, we all have to do it once, or twice, three times or more .... when we were young and reckless.

Fastest was at a racing school, driving a showroom stock Chevy Corvette on a race track, managed to average 175mph (280 kph) on the straight part of the course, which is 1.3 miles (approx 2 km) long.

Fastest on a public road was in a 2000 Audi A4 Turbo Diesel (I actually was arguing with the rental agency because I booked a performance touring car and didn't want a diesel, she tried very hard to convince me performance was no problem, I took the car because there were no alternatives, and took it grudgingly, and how wrong I was) in Portugal, driving along a deserted highway along the Spanish border going south, averaging 250 kph for a 10 km stretch.

Most exhilarating drive, in terms of speed, was in an unmodified 1999 Mazda MX5, averaging approx 60-75 mph along Highway 1, north of San Francisco, heading north to Stinson beach. The road was cut along the side of a cliff, with the majestic Pacific to my left, sun was setting, and hair pin turns all the way. Part of this strecth was used in the movie Basic Instinct where Michael Douglas, in a Ford Mustang, was racing Sharon Stone in a Lotus (I believe). Thas is still my favourite drive on earth,

Diesel have come so far along that some would argue they are more effecient, you can now see more luxury brands rolling out models both on Petrol and Diesel.

Car was only 160 in BMW 728 and 140 in Porsche 944 both locally 6 years ago. (nothing much to speak of)

    bike can?
estimate 240km/h (cos meter pointing at a no marking place) for a long stretch highway in a nearby neighbour country and average >200 between toll stations. Slow down for toll, and after the station open all the way again.

Wah Leew! Came back from weekend and saw 86 posts to this thread! Cool!

I started this thread on Fri evening cos I had to work late and was very sianz. Intending this to be a "mine's bigger than yours" thread in the name of fun, I am glad to have so many members joining in the fun, even those admonishing high speed driving. (I fully agree with you guys that speeding is dangerous). Then again, there is no denying that in many of us, the adrenaline rush is great and most of us would have tested the limits at one time or other in our lives (mostly when we are younger it seems). Having said that, I can safely say that these times are few and far between, and for most of us, the temptation comes only when on an empty "safe" road. Note I said for MOST of us. We all know there are a few siow kia out there who have something to prove - you know who you are... please zhat lak zhat lak tam poh hor (control yourselves, don't overdo things, be responsible).

Anyway, I will close this thread by end of this week so anyone else who wants to join in the fun, please lock in your "size" if you think yours is bigger!

PS: To the admonishers..... slow driving isn't safe either. You will cause other drivers to try and overtake you on the left or right, putting themselves and youself both in danger.

PPS: If I may, one more thing, this time to ALL drivers.... Oi! Come on la... got accident at side of road please don't slow down and see see look look la.... behind all kenna jam up ok!

Long time ago in Germany on the Autobahn. Mercedes 380 doing 240 kph. Then I began to think what happen if the tire burst. So I slowed down to 160. Am glad I did it and got over it. Now with family and kids there is no way I am going to put their lives in jeopardy.

The difference between Brave/Stupid/Dead is a very thin line when you go above 200kmh. don't get me wrong, I love to speed too, but when I do those speeds, I have 100% attention on the road & traffic. I will not even allow passengers to distract me. Just look at some of the best F1 or rally drivers in the world and you will see the intense concentration they put in, let alone people like us.

I remembered one incident when one tire on my car simply burst when on the highway, and if I did not have both hands on the wheel and fast reaction times, I would have lost control. Even then it was not easy to maintain control of the car and slow to pull over.

Please I hope no one reading this attempts the same thing to post, OK? Driving fast is already dangerous, don't make it worst.

Yes, my own fav is also not on highways, as anyone with balls the size of watermelons or brains the size of peas can go fast in a straight line. I prefer winding roads and I do not need to be going very fast to have a good time.

Yeah but it depends on what car you are driving as well......

Scooby Doo(WRX), and Evos have the edge when it comes to driving hills, bends and curves.

An American muscle like Mustang 5.0 litre would do great on straights and beat the heck on most cars on the road including Feraris and Porches but confirm lose out on bends and curves.

Ball of Watermelon and Brains the size of a peas is one thing but until you are on the road driving (be it winding curves or a straights at 250-300kmh) your balls will still shrink......that's if you have hit over 250kmh....

Actually I own a Ferrari and also a 50 year old morris convertible (that has 110kmh top speed). I have as much fun on curvy roads in the morris going 70-80 as in the Ferrari going 180. We are not out to race, just enjoy ourselves. Absolute speed is not the key.

Don't get into a race on public roads, it is really dangerous. If someone challenges, which happens to me alot, just let them overtake. We all want to live to enjoy driving, photography etc. Be Cool
