You seem to forgot the numerous threads about bad sellers and buyers in CS B&S.

Or maybe you never read them at all?

That is exactly the name given to this thread and what do you folks think
of the thread starter? It says something about him though, isn't it?
"horrible"; "unprofessional"; "totaly disgusted" and so on... these words are very damaging. What do you think of people using such damaging words on a real commercial enterprise whom some folks here do frequently visit?

I am sure there are other ways to solve the problem or to give warning of this shop behavior.

The is a fine example where the fundamental of prosperity is lacking, resulting in unhappy customers going online. But if the young photographer himself has the foundation of intelligent manner, he won't have to struggle burning all his energy to promote the "right" behavior.

    --------------------------------------
The first step is to give more thought
and attention to people, develop relations
or give them something not so much like
social pressures for them to change.
So you mean to say I should be more mild in the way I titled my thread ?

If you have been told that this shop has a GOOD reputation from numerous CSers over here and when you go down and receive CRAP from the shop, am I still suppose to start a thread and ask everyone if the problem lies with me ? Am I suppose to start the thread with 'Does my stupidity deserves such service ?' or 'Am I suppose to get bad service becos I'm a newbie?'

WE are all newbie before. That is a fact you cannot run away from. So what is it that will make a newbie or anyone return to a place to buy somtink. It all boils down to one tink. SERVICE .... PERIOD.

If you are in the retailing line, that is the only tink that will retain your customers. Service is the only way you leave an impression with your customer. If you wana be popular with the local pool of photog, all you have to do is to start with the bottom of the triangle... the newbies.

Tink of it, once you ave become a more experience photog, you may already have accumulated quite a bit of lenses / accessories and what are the chances of you visiting shops to buy stuff with enthusiasm like a newbie ? Like I said, all of us was a newbie once, and I'm sure you understand the kind of enthusiasm you have when you first started out your favourite hobby.

Nothing beats being able to buy new toys and try it out and show off your stuff to friends who do not share the same hobby as you do. And when this friend of yrs, who now becomes interested in yr hobby, becos of what he sees what you have done, gets into the hobby, I am very sure he will look to/for you to intro some places where you have bought your stuff. If the shops you are going to intro him is going to have such service, would you dare to intro the shop to him? If 1 newbie doesn't intro 1 shop to another, how muc business do you tink the shop will be losing at the rate DSLR is growing?

Does need a scholar to know of such a logic ...

Like what most people said. Look for the regular chap in the store, the names for every store is already posted around the forum. Granted you got a bad experience this time, your previous time wasnt bad right? Beats going to other shops and getting **** service all the time.
There is only the 2 of us in the shop ...

And I came into the shop holding her hands ...

You're paying for services, after, before and during purchase. Saying you need to find a correct salesperson is the key to making a happy purchase is not totally wrong, but if that's the case, why have that salesperson around if only James is good?

There are so many better shops with average or good sales services and doesn't just ignore you or talk rudely, bochuply to you. You as a consumer why should you suffer this kind of behaviour when you're emptying your wallet/salary into the store?

Take my advice, go TK Foto or Cathay Photo instead. Good price, good services, no double standard(s).
I have been a long time fan and customer of CP and TK photo.

    Yes, the service there is
I've tried some many things there without any bad service, even though I didn't buy anytink in the end.

I totally agree with you on the 'Correct Salesperson' logic. Why have so many salesperson when only 1 is good / popular with customer ? Might as well just have a booth with 1 person inside serving you and he/she will have access to all the stocks so that he/she can serve you wholeheartedly. Ok , maybe a wrong example, but I tink you get my drift.

So does it mean that there should be a thread 'The only salesperson you should look for when you go to ...' ? I mean, if most of you feel that I have approached the wrong salesperson cos, I didn't know that I have to in the first place, then that thread should be made a 'Sticky thread' in the Comsumers Corner ?

Nope. If you got crap from them say it like it is, no need to tone down, if everyone tone down the end loser will be customer service.

Others who are buys stuff there will have to make up their own mind if they want to partronize that shop based on your exeprience and compare with others that say they are good, but at least they come into the shop aware of such things with a particular sales person and be prepared.

What I find surprising is that after giving the threadstarter the price, this Kelvin guy can take a smoke break whilst the threadstarter is still browsing. Even if I don't know what the dispute is about, this to me is the clearest sign of the "bo chap" attitude of the sales staff there.

So many shops in Singapore to buy camera equipment. Got to thank the threadstarter for giving me one less to choose from.

So may be I should just go into the shop the new time and ask 'Are you James? If not, please do not serve me. I only want this James guy, who everybody is singing praises about.'

What and how would you feel if you are in his shoes? If all / most people just go look for the 'Nice, service-oriented, friendly, courteous salesperson' that was recommeded, how are the rest of the salespeople going to earn their commission ?

To get another person's respect, you 1st have to earn the respect of others.

Don't go to work like everybody owes you a living. worst still if you are in the retailing line.
Ever seen Giordano staff not greet you, even though their cat/dog have died ? Or if they have just broken up with their partners?

That is why in my response to David, I said I would not go to Lords again, if I were in your position. Because there are alternatives. Bad services are just that. Bad services, irrespective of the reasons for bad services.

However, there are also many positive experiences with Lords, as you can see from the various responders. My friends who regularly buy from Lords all have nothing but praise for Lords. Your experience is regrettable. But I think it is only fair that others share their experiences to give another impression of services from Lords.

Invariably many people will have many different experiences with different camera shops. But I'd like to make a distinction between photographc supplies shops versus just camera shops. There are niche shops out there run by by people who actually know the basics of photography if not more and there are those..well I'd term just product pushers. Unfortunately the niche shops are generally a little higher in price simply because of their scale, while the larger shops then to be able to reduce prices due to their larger bulk orders and other ancillary businesses (not necessarily observed at their shop fronts).

But niche shops like J316, MS, TK often provide value added services & advice if need be and after sales is also evident. But I guess if you are comfortable with whichever shops Lord's, AP, Lucky "rip-off" plaza, that's OK too..whatever makes you happy at the end of the day.

Anyone with comments to the $? For me, i felt that it was alittle expensive, as i got a BR-2A at $25. As the specs are almost similiar, so how come such a huge difference in pricing? As I'm a newbie, these are my thots.
I had a little spare time just now and made a few phone calls to the other popular shops on this forum enquiring about price/availability of the Nikon BR-3. The results:

Cathay Photo: No stock available, but the salesperson estimated that the price would be "about $60" upon order.

TK Photo: No stock available, but the helpful salesperson duly checked the pricelist and quoted $40.

    MS Color: No stock available.

    AP: No stock available.

Also did a quick search on CS and found this thread in which a user claimed to have purchased a BR-2A and BR-3 from TK at a combined price of $64. using stinkyfoot17's quote of $25 for the BR-2A, that would put the price of the BR-3 at $39.

Based on the above, my personal opinion is that the $40 charged by Lord's is very acceptable and definitely NOT UNREASONABLE. No doubt stinkyfoot17 did not feel he had a pleasant experience at the shop, but it's safe to say (in my opinion) that, for all the subjective hunches and bad feeling, he was not ripped off or cheated by Lord's.

As to whether Lord's deserves the label of "utterly horrible, unprofessional and totally disgusted", I'll leave to the individual CSers to decide for themselves!

actually I thought the original poster was a little bit too sensitive. I read the initial post and I found nothing wrong with lord's behaviour.

What SHOCKED me was the other post about Lords taking back lenes AFTER it has been used for TWO SHOOTS.

Let me put in a word of fairness... you may have had bad experience with a particular staff.. blacklist the staff.. fine.. but don't need to blacklist the shop..

James has been giving excellent service... even allowing me to walk off with the D2X after having problems with my credit card and pay a week later.. And this is not only because I've known him for a long time.. got good service from the first time I met him..

You may have bad service at CP, AP or Lords (Except John 3:16 - Everybody seems to be friendly there except that they can get quite busy) depending on who you approach.. Getting recommendations on who to talk to will be a good idea..

Oh my, sorry for your nasty experience but I, like some others here, stand behind LORD's prices and definitely Jame's service. I have recommended at least 3 friends to him (including one who communicated with him via Email prior to purchaing when he was in Singapore) and they can all attest to the fact that he is very patient and friendly BUT...salesman being salesman do have to protect their interests as well i.e. prices and profits so...even though I patronise them , I would still do my homework first and Clubsnap's pricelists are usually quite accurate and ,if in doubt, let your fingers do the walking first before hitting any store.

Yes, I do agree that Lucky plaza is not the best place to be parking hundreds or thousands of $$ for sophisticated optical equipments because of it's 'ambience' compared to CP, John 3:16 etc...which pay more for location, staff uniform, frontage (which incidentally gets absorbed into their products' prices!) but if you zip by during the afternoons between 2 ~ 5, James would usually be real chirpy and can go on forever about cameras lenses etc... I've even asked JAmes to match promotions given by other shops before and he has never failed to exceed my expectations (i.e. slightly lower prices) for the same promotion!!

I've used previous shops before and there are good and bad expriences even from CP , TCW etc...it depends on who serves you and if they know you (sad but true) so...with this truth, I've decided to stick to LORDS and, in particular, James who never fails to serve me well. In fact, after a recent purchase he even offered to give me a further 'discount' "for carpark".

Only gripe I have is...their 'cash preferred' pricing policy. But...really, if you budget well camera equipments are best bought in cash (unless you earn a living from them) because after that the expenses will continue (shoots, accessories, processing etc...) and photography can have a debt-snowballing effect if not handled well.

I'm sorry for your bad experience and I hope you will find a shop that you'll get to know well and who knows you well to nurture your photographic interests.

    Cheers
