Default Q on movie file format.

    Hello everyone,

A friend of mine owns a PANASONIC Lumix PnS camera. She has recorded some JPEGs and some movie files (xxxxxx.mov) onto the camera's SD card.

I plan to burn the contents of the SD card onto a CD-R. I would like to know how do I convert the .mov files so that it can be played from a normal VCD/DVD player? But I am unsure that a normal VCD/DVD player will be able to play .mov files.

    TIA.

Conversion of file formats is all here:

    http://www.videohelp.com/convert

I have not tried it though.

The info you need is on the videohelp website although you will need to bit of reading.

Two points to keep in mind.

    1. Just converting to mpeg format (for VCD of SVCD) is not enough. The movie must be in the exact VCD "compliant" specifications e.g.

    PAL

    Video:
    1150 kbit/sec MPEG-1
    352 x 288 pixels
    25 frames/second

    Audio:
    44100 Hz
    224 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2

If you get the right converter such as TMPG (freeware) they will have a "create VCD" option which convert at all the right settings.

Have a look at this page on the videohelp site:

    http://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

    2. You will need a cd burning software that does VDC format e.g. Nero as a "compliant" VCD needs to have a set of directories and files set up on the CD-R and not just the mpeg file.

Details on all of this can be found on the net.
