    so you are running dual displays, one 24" and one 30"? so weird why dun u get both 30" or both 24"?

    Can someone enlighten me on the meaning of contrast ratio. For Dell, it's 1000:1, Apple, it's 400:1 ... What does that mean? Is it important?

    Usually the higher the better, but sometime it may not be "real" 1000:1 (dark) as we want, they just simply boast the blightness further, a bit tricky.
    The contrast ratio is established by contrasting the brightest white that the screen can produce with the darkest black. More specifically, it is the difference in intensity between a 100% white signal and the same white signal at 0%, the result being divided by the value of a white at 0% calculated in Lux (a 0% white signal is black).

    The trick is you cannot specify in great detail what you will get.
    It is supposed to be low cost so you cannot complain.

    I much prefer Sim Lim Square small IT shops where you can custom specify and build
    according to the components that you want.
    And back up svc is 1st rate; if got problem bring back and they deal same day, no such thing like waiting 2 weeks; and no charge except if you change components.
    Small IT shop is smaller and service is more personal.
    Not a giant international company with many departments. Perhaps no one cares or no one has ownership of the problem facing you.
    You get mixed up by relating the deliveryman with DELL. The deliveryman does delivery for DELL and nothing more.

    Warranty and service from DELL is certainly better than those shops at SLS.
    U can get Dell coming down to your house to service your computer instead of bringing your comp to the shops. And Dell is likely to be around to honour the warranty compared to those small shops that close down as often as new shops are set up.

    One thing for sure, u are assured that there's no hardware conflict with your system or else u can get DELL to resolve it. I had once purchased a system form Funan shop and somehow the CD cannot play movie. Otherwise the CD function perfectly. So I just cannot get it exchanged under warranty or serviced. If that happens to DELL, u can be assured that it can be resolved or money back!

    That is what I like about dell...... very good onsite service and exchange policy, I hope that other company will follow that also.......

    Good for you not to buy a Dell, and good that you can based your decision on someone else's experiences, not yours.

    I had more problems dealing with non-branded/small system intergator over the years that I have for the last 5 years stay with IBM for notebooks and Dell of desk tops. Of course, the non-branded are a lot cheaper, especially from SLS, but you have absolutely no idea if there are any hardware conflict etc. You also only get warranty from the OEM. How much can the shop really support ypou is a question. The margin is so thin, if they work on your pc more than once, they are loosing money. Have you actually taken your pc down to SLC and received services? Was it a fixed or an exchange of parts? Was that particular parts still under manufacturer warranty? You meant the store charge you to change components within warranty period? And how long was the warranty period?

    The only advantage of SLS is price. By the way, what about phone tech support?
