I'm using HP8450. Highly recommended if you are not too concerned with the printing costs. Printer itself is very cheap at $199 on their online store, but a whole set of inks is almost the cost of the printer.

The print quality is excellent on HP Premium Plus papers (but take a couple of days to dry).

No clogging problems with HP printers from my experience.

buy from hp website (hp.com.sg)

Yes HP8450 comes with 3 cartridges, namely photo ($40), tricolor ($50) & gray ($40).

After printing about 80 4R photos, ink left (photo 80%, tricolour 50%, gray 20%).

I think now u can roughly workout cost per print

therefore large scale printing is definitely out . But then, when u only make adhoc or occasional printings like me, u will appreciate "clog free" HP printers.

i bought the 8450 recently. and never looked back.
(thanks jeffreyk! )

love every bit of it. print cost could be a bit higher
but i love the clog free printing since print heads are
built into the cartridge. but every change of cartridge
gives me a new print head (nice

i particularly liked the LCD panel. let's me select and print
from my CF card. the printer also has some basic edit
functions like adding sepia, b&w, antique tones for quick adjustments
before printing. color and exposure is quite faithfully reproduced
when printing direct from CF card. the printer reads
jpgs, bmps, tifs, etc but not camera Raw files but that's
not a major issue since printing from LCD is supposed
to be unelaborate. i would prefer the LCD panel to be larger
and have better resolution but at $199, i'm not complaining.

network ready function is a bonus. i hooked mine up
to my home wireless network. so i can print from more
than 1 computer.

printer is a little wide for me, so if you're worried about
the footprint, find a nice spot to set it before you decide
to buy it.

detection of paper type is 'automatic' by the printer
which has some issues when i'm not using HP paper
e.g ilford this means that some tuning may be needed.
i've also not checked if ilford has tested their papers to
work well with HP vivera inks for long term color stability
and light fastness (any advice of this anyone?). HP papers
are limited in variety in my opinion. would prefer a wider
selection of paper. Personally, I would like to see HPColorfast
papers in non-glossy (i.e matte or smool pearl) finish.
but i guess HP products tend to be designed for the US market
first and that their preferences lean towards the more
punchy, saturated finishes in high gloss. not that suitable
for muted, subtle color exposures (personal preference here).
but having said that, there are alternatives when it comes
to papers, just need time and a little experimentation to
find it.

hope this helps.
