Default How To SHoot Bird Properly?

    Hello,

    need pointers..
i think my focusing can never be faster than flying birds, even when i'm on AI Servo. i'm using 350D with Canon 75-300mm USM III stacked with a 1.4X TC.

How do i get to focus on them as they fly? TIA for the advice!

Your method of shooting is hit and miss. 90% miss, 10% hit.

Here's an insider tip: You don't aim at any bird in the sky and try to shoot it. Its virtually impossible to get a good shot.

Look for a bird on a perch, anticipate when it will take off. Pre-focus your camera and wait. When you see the bird about to launch, start snapping. This is one of the few instances where Drive mode is recommended. Takes practice to know where to aim, but you can get good shots of the bird in mid-flight.

To get REALLY good shots of birds, you have to study the species, observe its habits, behaviour etc. Next you have to find its habitat and observe - on which trees does it "hang out", what time, when is the best time to shoot.

Sorry but there are no short cuts. National Geog. photographers don't get paid thousands per shot if an amateur can just go out and snap and get good results. Some shots you see are the results of 6 months of hard work!
