Shooting Mode : Manual control Aperture : F/8-F/16 (smaller aperture such as f/11 or F/16 will give finer(thinner and probably nicer) fireworks trails than using F/8) Shutter : 3-8 seconds (or even longer, depending on the light and duration intensity). ISO : 100 or lowest possible (such as 200 on Nikon D50 or D70) Focus : Infinity or manual focus at buildings in the background. White Balance : Incandescent (or auto or Flourescent, depending on what colour cast you prefer). (If you shoot in RAW format, then there is no problem to adjust to any of those later). Tripod is of course a must. Basically, low Sensor sensitivity with small aperture at long exposure to capture the full trails of fireworks without getting over-exposed and excessive amount of noise in the image.
