Hi all,
Here are some pics from my trip in phuket. spent 5 days diving there. Enjoy! Comments and suggestions are very much welcome. All pictures taken with a Canon A95 and Princeton Tec LED torch. #1 Manta Claus ![]() #2 Longfin Bannerfish aplenty and zipping around the reef ![]() #3 Mango pudding? I have no idea what this is... During a night dive. ![]() #4 What fish is that? Had a hard time focusing cos it was darting around. Love the colours of the soft coral. ![]() Last edited by antacid; 29th December 2005 at 02:51 PM. |

hi antacid, i quite like the first lionfish night dive shot. very interesting effect
for ID, the moorish idols are not moorish idols. they are longfin bannerfish. moorish idols look different, with a "beakish" mouth. the nudibranch (orange lump of animal) should be Halgerda Batangas. you got a butt shot ![]() Last edited by beivied; 29th December 2005 at 10:52 AM. |

Haha thanks Ivy! My girlfriend always said I had a thing for butts...I'm just drawn to them unconsciously. Is there a common name for that? I doubt I can remember the scientific name. Ah, alright. I always get mixed up between bannerfish and moorish idols. they should wear IDs or something. ((= Last edited by antacid; 29th December 2005 at 02:48 PM. |

you have a thing for butts? comment from your girlfriend? eh, i need to check the nudi book for the common name.. not too sure, but i think the common name still has the word halgerda or batangas in it. bannerfish looks more... "fishy". in fact if i am not wrong, they arent even related. moorish idols besides having a more "beakish" mouth, they looked like they have an orange plaster over their "nose" ![]() |

Cheers, Jeff PS. The tiny fish in the soft coral looks like a juvenile wrasse (Labridae). Can't say for sure which species, but I'll look at my books when I get the chance. Last edited by cat64fish; 30th December 2005 at 03:22 PM. |

Snoots are devices that are used to block the strobes to give a very narroe beam. Good for selective lighting.. somewhat like what you are doing. ![]() Can someone confirm that this is a Halgerda batangas? The gill structure doesn't resemble the species... or a juvenile maybe? ![]() This is the photo i took.. similar albeit fundamentally different??? I'm finally back into Nudi mode!! ![]() Last edited by waisj; 30th December 2005 at 08:26 PM. |

antacid, some years back (prob 3 years, not too far away), people will say your lighting is uneven.
As digital photography gets more affordable and people are not afraid of experimenting, your shots are now called creative lighting. It's not what u have but how u use them......I really like those "snoots". And your panning puffer. Eric Last edited by kthan; 31st December 2005 at 12:24 AM. |

thanks, eric. i guess the perceptions of what's good and what's not change over time.
to be honest, the panning shot was pure luck. i was just testing my camera on the first dive and snapped the first thing that appeared. didnt expect it to turn out like this. |
