Default oil like stains on polarizer

caused by lubricants in the CPL rings?

if so, any idea how to get it cleaned? brand is hoya, if it makes any difference. i attempted to open the filter by using screwdrivers but it doesn't budge any bit.

please advise!

I think he meant its inside..

erm first things first..
you sure its not lens coating? haha
kidding
ok cld it also be the polarised light from plastics?
I know that polarising filter can be used to see stress points in plastic sheets so it looks like its a rainbow kinda pattern sth that could be thought as oil?

can't find the images though..

erm if it ain't the above afraid I can't help. cos i find it strange that oil can get in between and spread across the filter lens..
if it aint affecting ur image i won't worry though..

I think he's talking about oil like smudges on the polarizer. I also have this problem, lens pen doesn't work.

There is oil like liquid between the 2 glasses in the polarizer, if you pry it open you will see it spilling out, so don to try to pry it. I once had this experience with Hoya polarizer when the thing just got loose and the oil oozed out of the polarizer and subsequently the 2 piece just came out.

Never, never touch Hoya polarizer after that.

its in between the lens. yeap. wasn't clear with that. the smudges are in a circular pattern, around the circumference. it's more obvious on the inner side though. cos the polarizing layer seems to be polarizing it. haha.

how did you manage to pry them?

anyways, any idea if you could fix them back after you pry it open? i'm not very ready to spare some good money on a new CPL. :/

I did not pry it open it just got loose and open up. It can be close back just snap it back in place. It is held together by a ring between the 2 pieces. Once the liquid leaks there will be bubble inside and it is quite useless.

I was quite disappointed with Hoya's quality after this incident, especially when it occurred when I was in NZ and it was not only difficult to find a camera shop but also expensive there. Hence no more Hoya Cir-Pol for me.
