Just shot some 120 negative film and scanned using the above. Any comments to improve results of scanning?

I use a 9950F and usually results are pretty good after the usual usm in ps. Of course results also dependent on sharpness of pic on negative/positive itself.

There are significant artifacts as well as hard sharpening halos in the 100% crop. Have you tried disabling some of the scanner's processing features(grain removal, sharpening..etc) to see if you get a cleaner output?

Is it better to turn off the scanner's built-in feature (eg. USM, grain removal, etc.) and do that on PS?

I have done another scan turning off scanner based sharpening etc. Seems that PS will give lots more control over exactly what you want versus scanner based settings.
These are some results: I have just applied very little sharpening in PS ![]() ![]() Thanks for all the feedack and advice. |

If you have the scanner on a fairly stable platform, you could try multi-pass scanning. It will take quite a bit longer though.

multi-pass scanning come with silverfast (software CD) only... it should be bundle with your scanner.

From my understanding, multipassing will reduce noise cos noise is random.
u can download the trial version from http://www.silverfast.com/sf-download/demo/en.html

I just download Silverfast and did a 2 pass scan, with no USM & descreen. The resulting color is more accurate, and also much less noise!
With silverfast: ![]() with canoscan: ![]() Wow, now i have to save up to buy software! Thanks guys. Last edited by KCLow; 14th January 2006 at 11:47 AM. |
