Default cost of fixing oily shutter?

anyone faced an oily shutter before?

i just bought a 2nd hand EOS 50 and i didn't check the body properly, when i got home, i found some sticky stains on the shutter. it tunred out to be oil.

my seller was very nice to have provided a link to the oily shutter problem and offered to pay for the cost of servicing and even offering me a full refund.

any idea how much it'd cost to fix it?

i called camera hospital and for those who wants to know how much it'd cost, its between $100-$150 for cleaning the shutter, and $280 for replacing the shutter.

    ok
there is some DIY method on the net
    try that

it is simple, gently use cotton bud with some
    high quality solvent
    dissolve, clear, dissolve, clear

the seller is first class guy if he offered to have
it cleaned, post his name here if he is ok with that )

I will buy anything from him )

or you could send to P&G at adelphi basement
dont know how much, it is cheap

i tried, it doesn't work. each time the shutter completes its motion, it gets stuck again.

wonder if this is the same problem that i had with my eos 630. the rubber lining that dampens the shutter melted. the first sign is oil. after the shutter will jam.

    yes
    THATS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM
but after that series, there shouldnt be any more melted
    rubber seal

CANON's problem, but they fixed it only for camera after 630/620

shutter needs to be cleaned on both sides
make sure it is ALL GONE before testing
if it jam, it might damage the shutter BEYOND REPAIR

    clean BOTH SIDES, of shutter
    absolutely clean
maybe wait a few days to see if it returns
    THEN test the shutter

I got my eos50 for S$170,,, so i dont think cleaning at $100
    is worth it

repair shutter assembly is even more
