Hi all,
I just bought Canon 350D recently. When I equip it with my old Sigma 70-300 Lens (from previous Canon SLR), sometimes it showed Err99 error message (quite frequent in fact)... Especially taking outdoor pictures... I read the manual and it said its due to using non Canon Lens. Anyone got such problem before? Will it spoil my camera if i continue to use it? Should i get a new lens? Desperately looking for advise. ![]() |

I had the same problem with an old sigma len. It's compatibility issue.

You can try asking Sigma whether they'll rechip it for you. |

But i guess if the lens is more for for personal usage and you can afford the un-predictability of the lens (or rather wait for the lens to re-connect to the camera), then you might wish to consider keeping me.. For me, I hardly use telephoto; so i can leave with the problem and its still with me |

Mine also the same, already sold it off. It's not compatible.
What's the serial # of your lens? I have previously checked with sigma, if it's like starting from 2xxxxxx.. or 4xxxxxx.. most likely not compatible. Mine is 3xxxxx.. series, it can only be rechipped to be compatible with a 300D but no way to support 350D as Sigma feels that the cost is too high to justify. Have to sell it cheap after that. Bot a 2nd hand Canon 75-300 III at less than $200 for replacement, not fantastic, but at least usable. |

I had a old sigma APO 70-300mm for SLR as well... give error for both 300D and 350D. checked with Sigma in Singapore...old len not suitable for digital camera. rechipping exercise was over. So bobian .. pain pain buy a new sigma APO 70-300mm DG. good len, not that expensive... I pay $320 from MS color.

How much is it to send for rechipping? Does it work? Or should i invest in a new lens instead?

Sigma guy replied my email.. He said around SGD85.00 for rechipping.
My lens is Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DL Macro Super. so mine no III USM rite?? This lens is with me for 6years already.. Should i go for the rechipping or buy a new lens? What is III and USM for? Please advise.. |

III or II is the revision of the lens (version). USM stands for ultrasonic motor. These are all terms used for Canon lenses.

and rightly so Canon should profit from their effort & money expended in inventing and developing their camera product line the argument can be that this sigma is an older lens but if Canon keeps upping the ante and putting stuff into their digicam circuits that cause another generation of sigma lens having to rechip then it is a never ending story in the end consumers get the message and just buy Canon lenses see, even when the mount is the same (sigma lens made with Canon mount) you got protection issues and lens cannot be used how can the 4/3 concept of all cameras using the same mount work? wake up and welcome to the real world. |
