Hi,
does anyone has a rangefinder system available for rent for 12 days? from 17 Dec - 29 Dec? Not looking for an expensive set, something simpler like a Bessa or one of the older models will do. please drop me an email at acidfree@yahoo.com if you can help me. thanks. |

But if someone does not know you, why would they rent their Bessa (not cheap) to you? And what if you accidentally scratch the lens or damage the body? "Oh, that's just a minor scratch, never mind, lah... on his Nokton f1.5lens" "Oh, that dent in the camera? Not my fault, the waiter pushed the table and your Bessa dropped on the floor. I cannot compensate you, since not my fault. " (Sorry just fictional or hypothetical) What if you "rent" and do not come back or is not contactable for 5 years after that ? or do not answer phone calls or sms or phone line cut and number changed? Normally if we gauge a person and can trust him, we will just say take my camera and use after that just return the idea of renting is a joke |

Are you willing to pay a deposit, in cash, the full price of the camera and lens?

Equipment rental is very common actually. do a search in this forum and u see pple renting out Canon D20 or other DSLRS, which easily cost more than a Bessa system. I rent cars frequently and the car owners or companies don't know me either. Well, they do make photocopies of my IC and take a deposit, make me sign a contract etc. I'm cool doing that for renting a camera. For your info, Hock Kee rents out a phase one system for less than $300 a day. I'v rented from him before and I''v rented a Canon EOS 1DS Mark II for S$200 a day. The phase one costs > $50k and the Canon costs more than $15k. Student, i can pay deposit, but not full price though. |

I do know Trucatus who rents out Cine camera equipment to studios But if you are in photography surely you have a wide circle of friends who can just let you have the use of their camera (many of CS members have more than 1 camera) for the 2 week period. That is why I say it was a joke, because if my good friend wanted to borrow my camera for 2weeks and if I find him a trustworthy guy, then what kind of friend am I to charge him "rental" to use my camera for 2 weeks. ![]() Phase 1 digital backs and cars are different since they are costly items so Pros save cost by renting. Well we all heard of Hertz and Avis. We try harder is the famous motto of Avis. I have lent equipment to friends before (of course FOC and sometimes for months; in one case for 2+ years) and to some people I never knew before. But it is a judgement call. I trust my instincts about people. If I am wrong in the judgement and he plays me out then too bad. ![]() Last edited by ricohflex; 12th December 2005 at 08:16 PM. |
