Default Why are there white spots?

Need advice why there are so many white spots and what could be done to reduce it? It is not dirt on the lens.
    Camera: Canon Powershot A40
    Exposure Time: 1/60
    F-Stop: 2.8

    Thanks

I think it's due both to the fine dust in the air and those that settle on the lens after the fireworks and pyrotechnics. I've got the same thing in my pics of that event.

Upon examining my lens after that event, the uv filter was covered with dirt.

Doh, you were there with me? Yeap, was using a tripod.

Well, I was there on sat and sun night, but it was sunday night that a group of boys were like saying throw it at the photographer, and next thing i knew, confetti rained on me n my camera.
