if lack of vertical grip, slower burst mode (3fps vs 5fps) and lack of high speed flash sync are not major concerns, go for the cheaper D70s.

I think the Canon 20D is long overdue its successor.. Both are good cameras. Also consider Olympus E-500 if budget constraint.

At the end of the day, how to choose depends on: Your shooting style Your preferences Any compatible equipment you have right now Budget Reaction to the actual camera itself If you will regret it upon buying, you probably would anyway, regardless of what advice you heed right now. If you won't, you probably won't, if you choose either of them. |

Hear hear... anyone will do.
This is in the same vein as 350D or D50, 350D or D70s, KM5D or 350D... the list goes on. Depends if you have any Nikon or Canon lenses, which you prefer etc. Best you go down to a camera shop and try out both, how the layout of the controls are, how it feels in your hand etc. Of course technically speaking, the 20D is is more 'advanced' than the D70s, so it's not a true apple to apple comparison. |

Or... buy the 20D, if you don't like it, sell it to me cheap. Haha!

Besides what has already been mentioned, do take time to check out choice of lens and the prices for each of the brands' lenses. At the end of the day, you'll most likely wind up spending more money on the lenses than the body itself.
Some cameras, such as the Olympus E-300 and Sigma SD10 appealed to me in the past, but it's more difficult to find lenses for both these cameras. I shall refrain from commenting further, because much as I believe most brand DSLRs are at the very least decent, I don't know each of them well enough to compare them with each other. Do bear in mind that the Nikon D200 is on the way, and there are rumours of a Canon 20D successor. So if you can hold off on the purchase for a while, then wait at the sidelines and compare the newer models at a later stage. |

oh since someone mentioned about lens, what do you guys think bout the difference between nikor and canon lens ? since in the long run, collection of lens would be inevitable. Difference as in price differences, 3rd party supporters, quality.

As for 3rd party lenses, you can almost surely expect brands like Tamron, Tokina and Sigma to make lenses for both Nikon and Canon mount for the same lens model. |

unless you have very specialised usage, either system has more than enough to meet your needs.

Go for Nikon D200. No need to think so hard.
Best of Specs, value for money, higher resale value, less depreciation, etc, etc. |

To the threadstarter, if you can, borrow both cams from friends and test them out. Go with the one you feel most comfortable with. Ergonomics and ease of use matter a lot too. Both cams can produce outstanding pics, but only if the photographer wills it to. |
