    1) Polarising
    2) ND4
    3) 81A warm-up filter.

The price can vary depending on which brand you buy. Choose one appropriate for the lens you're using. No point in buying an expensive B+W for a $100 lens.

P.S. No.3 is not terribly useful since photoshop can easily replicate it without much hassle, but sometimes I like to use my shots straight out of the camera without PS.

UV - To protect the lens
Neutral Grad - for those high contrast scenes (which even photoshop can't help)
Poloriser - To remove those nasty reflections (also cannot effectively ps out)
Most other filters can be duplicated in PS.

Frankly u only need Circular Polarizer, just skip the #2 & #3 and use all the money to buy a good branded one. B+W ($$$), Hoya ($$), Tokina ($$).

If you only have 3 lenses and only want to buy 3 filters and never buy anymore after that for the rest of your life, then buy the most expensive filters you can afford.

If to protect your lenses, buy all 3 UV. Nikon, Canon, B+W, Leica, Contax are good brands in the top grade.
Hoya, Marumi, etc... are in the 2nd grade.

If you only have 1 lens, then buy 1 UV, 1 polarising, 1 softener like Contax Carl Zeiss "Softar" 1 or 2.
If you shoot black and white, drop the softener and buy a Yellow filter.

    i use film

seasoned users of carl zeiss softar and nikon soft will know

i do not think ps soft filter is the same

ps software "soft" filter may soften (in a flat way) the whole pic or area of pic you apply to

cz softar gives a soft glow and a very controlled softening that is not overdone

that is why it is so expensive
