the BAK2U service is solely dependent on the honesty of the finder. sorry to say, a cynical old man like me have very little faith in the honesty of men....

It will work only if the person is a good Samaritans.
For KT case, he did have contact & name in the bag but still..

After this incident, we can only conclude that Singaporeans as a whole still need to improve in their civic conscious.

Personally also suffered a loss - handphone - just 2 days ago. Within 15 minutes the phone could not be contacted. Now I know how painful KT's loss is.

Sad to say, the Bak2u doesnt work in Singapore aka *********. My aunt once left her purse on top of the car after withdrawing $500 from the atm. Got into the car and drove off. Purse was mailed back to her minus $500 + another $300 that was originally in the purse... all the cards remained intact thought

it reminds me of an incident many yrs ago. i attended a video making course at a comm centre. the course instructor managed to get a few video cameras for use in the class. these were made available by the manufacturer's agent here. however, during one lesson, one camera was found missing at the end of the lesson. police was reported. subsequently, i was called to attend an interview by the police. i attended and gave my version of what happened that day. after that, i did not hear from them anymore.

No idea whether the culprit was caught or was the camera recovered.

Does Singapore have a high crime rate? I live in the definition of Suburbia in SoCal... Nothing has happened to me (knock on wood) except someone egged our back window...

I did returned a video cam found in a cab once, the owner happens to be the director of the then SBC 5 serial, Master of the Sea's Director. He was so grateful that he gave me a bottle of wine and a designer's scarf for my wife....I cannot live with holding on to something which belongs to someone, and basically the couple deserve the shame and punishment that should follow their greediness.

As I can also see that quite a number of Singaporean are quite poor or merely average only.
The rich who buy properties here are mostly not local (minus all labour foreigner here). So, will this people still from us?
And yes, sadly we are moving ahead too fast already....People tends to think about themselves 1st to get what's best for them. And what about the rest? Our rulers also think this way too if I'm not wrong.
The people at the very top don't really see what we normal/ordinary folks sees. Cos they don't live their life like what we live anymore.

    Sorry for the OT.

seriously speaking... do you really think that an average joe who finds a bag with money in it or loaded with electronic equipments will simply hand it to the police? i don't think so. although i do not advocate such behaviour, but honestly, it doesn't happen.

    just my two cents

Well, that depends on how selfish/greedy a person is.

    There're still honest ppl around. Just to share an experience;

Once my wife left her wallet on a seat at Marina Bowling Alley after changing her shoe a few years back. We drove off, noticed the lost only after 10min. Drove back & search for it, it was gone. Made police report & reported to banks on lost of credit & ATM cards etc.

Next day, a man called her & told her to collect her wallet at a shop in Bishan. My wife got her wallet back only after getting a 'scolding' from him for being forgetful. He informed us after a day(which he did it on purpose) so that my wife will learn her lesson. Everything was intact, including the cash.

But you would not want to walk around alone at night in Harlem wearing an expensive Rolex watch.

Violent crime in Sing is less common. You can still walk at 3am safely.
Guess petty theft and temptation of the moment crime more common due to
society's materialistic pressures on young adults.
