Thread: Retirement Age

    Default Retirement Age

Today's ST stated that Japan retirement age is 101. Do we have one? Who determine our retirement age?

You determine this for yourself. It's the point when you stop working for a living. Of course, YMWV.

    $$$$ determine your retirement age...

You have $$$$... can retire at 20... no govt agency will force you to go to work...
You don't have $$$$... 99yrs old also need to work... can't work also have to beg...

We need to build this facility in Santosa in order to live up to 101 and maybe beyond:

SG long ago already don't have pension, even having a retirement age, means you'll be getting your CPF at the most... if you don't have sufficient saving or $$$ in your CPF, then even with a retirement age, won't help you in any way...

One could go seek help from Social Service at the Ministry of Social and Family Department.

    Too old?

FYI, 姜太公 started his political career at the age of 72, Ronald Reagan became President at the age close to 70, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt at the age of 80.

so, if nobody want to employ you, you can start your own business / venture,

or else just sit there 吃饱等死。

Then be selective who you ask. People disregarding you because of age (and whatever they imply with it) are simply not worth your time.

Government can say one thing, recruiting agent can do one thing and the HR Manager when taking in employee is another thing.

I think what HDB policy can be adopted here. A company wanted to recruit any foreign workers, there must be certain mix of age work group before they are allowed to do so. Union shall also fight to keep certain elder workers mix in the company. 5 to 10 % Elderly employees shall be kept by company.

At least with the MNC I was asked to retire by 65, then policy changed to 67 then I got extended to 67 before I need to retire.

Retire early of course by individual if one is rich enough can retire early or even never need to work, but I guess more on how to keep healthy life and be active in the rest of the years are worrying by the normal retirees.

    Retiring at 35 is nothing.

But being served by 3 wives after such an early retirement is something.

I wouldn't advise you to try it as your engine will wear out very soon.
