Was shooting a school event... then, it suddently just stopped working.

Is there a overheating cut-off mechanism?

It's been 30min, and it failed to "re-boot"...

Does it mean it's a trip down to KMSC?

Advise appreciated!

Is it a brand new flash or 2nd hand? Could it have been the life flash bulb is used up? This is especially so if its 2nd hand but could still theoretically happen in a new flash, although it must be real bad luck to happen to a new flash.

If the flash doesn't work after you bring home and test test, then better bring it down to service centre.

Of all the camera gear used to cover events, the flash is most likely to break down, so its always worth it to carry an extra flash and of course lots of spare batteries.

It's brand new...

First time using it for a shoot actually... batteries very very hot...

Interesting thing was that when i put in new batteries, it warmed up...but flash doesn't fire and LCD display registered nothing...

Perhaps the warming up was by inducting the heat from the heated up flash... but i doubt so.

Pls advise...

Did you overuse the flash?? The capacitor could be blown.

I blown mine a month ago also only about 5 or 6 uses (brand new from shop also), won't start or not interaction at all, just plain dead.

Sent to KMSC, took about 2 plus weeks to repair, according to the technician there, the (circuit?) board fired so need to change a new board. Now working fine.

I concur with ZCF. The batteries after use should feel warm, not hot. Batteries just put into the flash and not used shouldn't feel warm! It sounds like its some kind of short circuit or something. Bring it to KM service centre ASAP cos the turn around time is pretty slow, as mentioned, some 2-3 weeks.

Its easy to test this out, isn't it? If you think batteries are the culprit, batteries wouldn't work despite trying on other contraptions. If flash is the culprit, it shouldn't work despite change of batteries.

Thanks guys for replies... I'm quite certain it's not a battery issue...

I'm using SANYO 2100, 2300 and 2500 x 2 pckts. All not working... of course, I had managed to deplete 1 pack of 2500.... before the dreaded "silence"....

Well, looks like a trip to KMSC asap!!! I tend to think it's a fried circuit board issue too...

supposed to shoot at a wedding tmr...

Any1 willing to lend/rent me?

A trip down to KMSC solved my woes... They've kept my faulty flash and loaned me their demo set...

for KMSC... especially to manager Andy Lim!
