Default HOW POOR CAN SINGAPOREAN BE

Recently, I heard this over the radio.

There was once a lady who has to bring up 9 children. Her husband passed away when the 2nd last baby was only 2 year old.

They stayed in China Town, Duofu St.

The mother scooped up rice fallen from lorry together with egg of cockroach and rat dropping.

She cooked them altogether and told the children they were black rice. She could not wash as after washing, nothing would be left behind.

Sigh... now we can see a lot of food waste when we dine at food court!

60 yrs ago, the Singapore People then were Subjects, and not British Citizens, to the British Empire.
Where had the British Empire done any good for the Subjects?
Any "improvements" and "projects" done were to ensure the proper administration of the place. It's your luck if you happen to benefit from them.

Why didn't you ring up the radio station to tell them about the leftovers in our food courts?

There is a quite gap between the very rich and very poor.
The lower extreme can only afford a meal pèr day.

I hv once given 200 dollars to an old lady in Chinatown. It was reported that she has to walk several kilometres to a nearby Polyclinic just to save on the bus fare in order to be able to afford a meal for a day.
She said that the 200 plus assistance she got from gov every mth was barely sufficient.
