There's usually a couple of MB-21s going every week or two, same with the MB-23 Minimalis: There's nothing wrong or slow with the AF speed. AFS works fine on the F4s and with a bit of MF work before using AF it's good on non AFS lenses ![]()

isn't the MB-21 the one that makes an F4 the F4s, the MB-23 the one that makes an F4 and F4e and the MB-20 the mere battery holder that makes an F4 an F4?

i find the batt packs too ex too..... and why not use AA's when it's cheap and so widely available?
anyway, just to confirm..... the MB-20 is just a 4-AA batt holder with no electronics.... the MB-21 takes 6-AA and has electronics for the shutter release.... the MB-23 takes 6-AA and has the option of the MN-20 and it also has electronics for the shutter release.... correct me if i'mm wrong.... |

MN-20 is useful to those who need to work in the cold temperature where Nicad can extend the battery life. So is not so useful for us. |

There is one good feature of the F4S, you get very good battery mileage... Sometimes, you cannot even remember whe you last changed batteries..

other than the advantage of using an MN-20 and a higher shooting rate, which i doubt i'd use anyway, any other advantage of getting the MB-23 over the MB-21?

MB21 - if I remembered correctly, it is a 2 piece part, with 3 AA's in a vertical orientation by the grip side, the other 3 AA's in a horizon orientation. MB23 - all the 6 AA's are loaded into a tray at the bottom. Personally, my preference is the F4S (ie. MB21), no particular logical explanation ... |
