Thread: DA lenses on K1

    Default DA lenses on K1

Since i have some time on my hand the other day, i decided to try the DA*50-135 on K1 to see how usable it is on ff

    at 90mm f8

    IMGP1499 by Unforgiven28, on Flickr

at 135mm f8 (after some pp to clear the vignetting)

    IMGP1500 by Unforgiven28, on Flickr

i would say that at 135mm, this is the only focal length that we can really use the lens on k1 although i did take another shot at 115mm which only shows very slight vignetting after some pp

not much difference at 135mm for f2.8 and f8..the vignetting clears up quite well after some pp

at 135mm, it is quite a perfect focal for portraits...however if you see it only as a 135mm prime lens on ff, it might not be that appealing given that there are other alternatives around

next test is the bokeh test!

90mm on APSC is the equivalent of 135mm on FF..so is there a reason to shoot 135mm at FF versus 90mm on APSC?

one of the pic here is taken at 135mm on FF and the other at 95mm on APSC (i accidentally set it at 95mm instead of 90mm)..which one do you prefer or you think they are the same when it comes to bokeh?

i have been neglecting the 20-40 in the past month after buying the k1..previously it was my walkaround lens when i was using ks2...

Does not seem to have vignetting.

the 20-40 is actually usable from 24mm onwards after some pp..so it is like a 24-40 lens on ff..the range might be abit short but to me, it is good enough as it goes from wide angle (24mm) to almost a normal angle (40mm)

at 23mm, there is only a slight vignetting after some pp but the vignetting does goes away after 24mm

in conclusion, i think i will be keeping this lens for awhile..compare to 50-135 (which can only be used at 135mm on ff), this lens is actually more useful to me with its 24-40 range especially for travelling..if i pair this with the 77mm..it can be a good travel pair..i will have a 24-40 + 77 if i need the reach and not forgetting that i can always turn on the crop mode to get further reach out of the 2 lenses..there is also WR to boot!

ahh..i dun have the 70mm but my understanding is that it will work well on k1 since it is one of the lens that pentax already announced that it will work on ff

    Nice sharing Yama!

I think DA70 works on (FF) K1. wide open may have slight vignette base on commments from Pentaxforum.

Adding DA10-17 here, i have share this in another thread.
    @13mm, Vignette is visible.

    @14mm, slight vignette.

@14.5mm, it is the best point which the vignette will disappear. The EXIF would say it as 14mm.

Thank You Ranchy for your DA 10-17mm images & information about the DA 70mm F2.4

I Managed to dump all my DA Lenses last year but only left with the Kit Lens.
At the moment my System comprises of
    Body K30
    FF Lenses:
    1) Vivitar 28mm f2.8
    2) SMC F 50mm f1.7
    3) Tamron 90mm F2.8 Di Macro

I think I am quite ready for the Full Frame

Felix! Here is the reason why I won’t buy now.

I think I will wait for at least 8-12 Months before I get my hands on the (FF) K1.
By then all the Pre-Production units are out of the warehouse & reach consumer.

I probably should not be sharing this but, will do so for the benefit of the many kind “Pentaxians” who runs tests.

    Here are the reasons why:

I use to work as Modification Specialist in a famous Japanese MFG
Any new Technology or product example K1; that is designed will undergo up to 3 Phases of Pre-Production before the product launch.

    1st Stage Pre-Production (PP):
Small quantities of these PP units are actual prototypes, which is for display purpose prior to the launch to excite the consumer.

    2nd Stage Pre-Production:
Large quantities of these units will be for testing purpose by Engineers & Specialists. This is where all electronic measurements are conducted, Rigorous test of reliability & durability.

*These manufacturing Engineers are not Photographers & they know nothing about photography. Their tests are solely based on Technical Specifications.

    3rd Stage Pre-Production:
Much Larger quantities of these units are deliberately released to anxious consumer & also for testing purpose by selected Pro Photographers. Whoever buys the 1st Launch, are buying an actual Pre-production units. This is where actual feedbacks are thrown back at the Manufacturer where the Modification Engineers & Specialists will work on countermeasure to solve the problems faced by consumer. Example: the present Sigma Lens incompatibility issues.

My recommendation is to wait for at least 8-12 months after the product Launch. By then most modifications, countermeasure, software updated & reviews are out. Price may also drop by 20%

Manufacturer may also discretely design a “Ghost Model of the K1) such as a scale down version to strip off features that are not popular or not well received by consumer to reduce the cost & produce a cheaper version.

Ha Ha Ha >> So I will wait...

Erm... Why not just shoot as it is in FF mode and crop later to whatever crop factor you want in post? Does activating crop mode downsize the physical photocell?
