Prince Print Sets Auction Record For Photography

November 09, 2005 By Daryl Lang
An untitled cowboy photograph by Richard Prince set a record last night for the most expensive photograph sold at auction, with a price of $1,248,000.

The sale came in the first few minutes of a blockbuster auction of postwar and contemporary art at Christie's in New York. Prince's work was the only photograph in a 70-lot set that generated multi-million-dollar bids on works by Mark Rothko, Roy Lichtenstein, Willem de Kooning, Andy Warhol and others.

I will be damn happy if mine could sell without the 3 zero behind. Wonder wat make this pic special, the picture itself or the photographer?

richard prince has a pretty solid background in the art world plus his recent show has pushed his status up quite abit...it's good to see that photography can now costs as much as paintings.heh.good news for all artists who use photography as a medium!

Hmmm, surprised nobody from CS has said that the photo can be improved by giving more room on the right side instead of the left....
