An honest business which delivers what it promised to its customers.

the price is higher or lower is up to the business to offer, and up to the customers to decide whether to accept the offer. Remember "offer and acceptance" and caveat emptor.

ok, so whats an HONEST BUSINESS?

Its like, buying for 10 bucks, sell at 20% profit, 12 bucks = Honest? or buy 10 bucks, sell at 20 bucks = Dishonest? cos some ppl think that if A shop sells cheaper than Shop B then B shop is dishonest...

Then if 1 say that they are manufacturers in fact they are only reseller, are they labelled as dishonest? but due to fact that IF they are not manufacturers they don't have a business, then should they continue to be named as manufacturers which they are not?

He even go into tanishing Nikon by saying that the after sales service is no good just to hope that he can now sell his 300D as he got no more stock of the D70.
If you're referring to the same shop I'm thinking of, yeah, I think they've gone overboard in their attitude recently. The kind of advice and service I got there really turned me off. And I witnessed similar treatment as what you described being directed at some tourists. Either they're getting desperate or they've done so well they've become arrogant - I really don't know. All I can say is Exodus 20:7.

The keyword I used is "recently". I've bought stuff from them before and they were ok in the past. You shouldn't believe everything you read in the papers, not from a newspaper in a country ranked below Sierra Leone and Nigeria anyway (http://www.rsf.org/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=554). Likewise, you needn't believe my post either. Actually, I understand the strategy Jxxxxxx is adopting - but I'm just a bit of a socialist and I detest that sort of discrimination.

ONE AND ONLY RULE IN BUSINESS, NEVER BE HONEST ABOUT IT.

DCA, you are running a business too and don't tell me you tell your buyers that I am earning exactly $12.59 excluding GST? If Bill Gates is running an honest business, would he be a multi billionaire/trillionaire/zillionaire (if there is one lar)

honest and greedy businessmen r the norm,
but lately a friend of mine met with a truly dishonest retailer.

-saw an ad for DECT phone in SLS @55 by panasonic,
went there, paid for it, AND THEN the salesman started to bad mouth that set.
volunteer to show why that phone no good.
set it up, call the number and answer,
    so far so good.
ask him to turn around AND the reception GONE!!!!
(must have turn off the base unit)
    my friend, ever so gullible,
believe that the phone is directional(like some VHF military radio),
and UPGRADE to an Acatel at double the price.
now that's what i think is DISHONEST.
may that salesman soul burn in eteranl flame, amen.

So did your resellers say/show something that they are manufacturer or just customer perception???

Example... Dell is in the PCs business and also supply monitors with their brand name. Does Dell says the monitors are made by them? Or is it a customer perception that the monitor is made by dell?

The line between manufacturing/reselling is blurry in this case. BUT it had nothing to do with "Honest business"

I used to have a notebook under the brand "whitebox" and I find out later they did not manufacture it. They use a taiwan manufacturer and "rebrand" it under their brand.
And unknow customers might think the notebook made by whitebox since support and warranty by them. BUT they never say it's manufactured by them in any documents. Again a perception?

Hmm... How do I put it? There is no directly relationship between a profitable/unprofitable business and honest/dishonest business. In the same way, is there a different between making an honest living versus dishonest living? *lol*.

    Well,

Key #1: Business exists to make money.
Key #2: Willing buyer, willing seller
Key #3: If a business charges too high a price, it will be slowly move out of the market and die.

So, businessmen play with these parameters and try to make a living..

Well, let's say you buy Macdonalds's Filet O Fish. It's branded Macdonald's. Do you really think it is manufactured by Macdonalds? It could be made by some factory 'ABZ Ltd' in Thailand. Is this 'dishonest'??. I don't think so, more like outsourcing (makes no sense to do everything yourself).

If you are a businessmen, to sell a "whitebox PC", do you want to pour $$$$ into a waferfab factory, casing making factory, design CPUs, make hard disks, etc in order to be 'eligible' to call your PC 'whitebox'?

When you buy an branded item, it means you buy the brand's item (perception of 'good quality', 'reliable', 'cheap and quite good', good support etc).

We are on the same wavelength and I'm trying to know more from what the post starter thinks

My question :- is it customer perception? or like your example if MacDonald's made a statement that all fillet O Fish are manufactured by MacDonalds factory but in fact they got from the some "ABZ Ltd" company.

this is the CRUX of this whole honest business crap. life goes on, pushing commercialism, materialism....there is no such thing as honest business.

I do not believe in commercialism. Its very nature has converted all of us, by any standard, to sinners. Sick, profitminded citizens churning all the revenue! and all the soppy stories of the families to support, the ricebowl...the CRAP, if you ask me. everything began with modernization.

Thank you, Mr Lee!! Thank you, Raffles!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!

    Hahha...

I always believe...as loong as you deliver the item to the specs or description....thats honest.......its a two sided deal...both agree....

But you hide some known defect of your product....thats dishonest.....nothing to do with $$$$

    btw...on $$

I have once got a 1st hand lens cheap from a shop...at 1/2 th original price.....and guess what.....during my conversation.....i tried digging up info....and the sales person even tall me that they still make a litle bit form "that" discounted price.....hey .....juz when i realised that some photography equipments are sold at 100% mark up..
