From dpreview, there is going to be a HyperDrive Mini, (Compactdrive Mini?)...... The transfer speed is the same (if not slightly faster). The size improvement is due to usage of 1.8" harddisk (currently max out at 60GB) and "Nokia type" lithium ion battery (allows 30GB transfers on a single charge). Oh and it also plays MP3 & WMA. It should be out just before X'mas. And this is the product that is due to win the CES 2006 Design and Innovation Award on 15 Nov.

I have just bought a Hyperdrive Colorspace portable storage device (PSD) recently preparing for my 2-week Europe holiday in early November. I am bringing all my SD cards with me (1xTranscend 4GB, 2xSandisk Ultra II 2GB, and 1xSandisk Ultra II 4GB SDHC) but I plan to take quite a bit of video since I am not bring a separate video camera with me so I need a PSD to offload my photos and videos. I will carry my other compact Fujifilm F31fd camera with me as a backup and for some low light indoor shoots.
I did some research and eventually narrowed down the selections to 3 models: - Hyperdrive Space ($149*) - Hyperdrive Colorspace ($199*) - Nexto M1 ($127*) *Price are all without disk drive The selection criteria for me is on the speed of the data transfer. So far, these 3 models are the fastest in the bunch I can find. For SD cards, they are around 4-5MB/s so for 1GB of data, it will take around 3-4 minutes to download. For fast CF cards, it will only take 1 minutes to copy the entire 1GB of data. At the end, I choose the more expensive Hyperdrive Colordrive because I want the assurance of able to visually confirm the photos being copied from the SD card to the PSD. On top of that, both Hyperdrive can provide 32-bit hardware base verification to ensure the data got copied to the hard drive matches the data on the memory cards. Both hyperdrive have very good feedbacks from dpreview forum too. The Hyperdrive Colorspace has a 2.2" LCD and there is a 3.2" model coming up soon. ![]() |

Bro i've been using the Space for the past yr or so. Have to admit i luv it fm Day 1.
E colorspace wud b e perfect portable HDD. With e copy verification, doubt so u really need to view the pictures to verify that it got transferred successfully. But for just US$50 i wudnt mind the extra charges over the Space. Guess i have a reason to upgrade wen the Space goes bonkers. Did i mention e batt life is superb. |

I also couldn't find anyone selling this in Singapore. The last model East Gear sold was the PDX70.
You can take a look at these online stores: Australia: http://www.jaldigital.com.au/catalog/index.php USA: http://www.hypershop.com/shop/index.php I bought mine from JALDigital.com.au when it was still not available from Hyperdrive.com |
