Sometimes i let it hang from my camera + neckstrap but that seems pretty rough on the strap and cam mount. Most of the time my Bigma is mated to a monopod so I'll just carry the whole setup on my shoulder.
I haven't seen the strap for the lens. |

The Strap is supposed to be mounted somewhere at the back of the tripod mount. But i do not use the strap cos i find it very obiang..... I usually just carry my lens by the tripod mount. Otherwise i use the case which comes with the lens.

Problem is that some times you really need to free both hands and the lens was not mount on monopod. |

i think the monopod does not really matter
it is the head that is important. I have been shooting with a borrowed bigma for the last 4 days. and i used a cheap manfrotto monopod with head, total less than $100

my monopod head is the same as yours.
But just as long as the monopod leg can hold the weight it should not matter, since there is only one leg. Anyway I'll go and see which one i am using till later
